Baden Powell, Grandchildren

Baden Powell.
Steve was delighted to say
there will be over 100 activities
on offer this weekend and he is
looking forward to the launch
of the Scout Shops Onesie
at 11am, with special guest
models Matt Hyde, Wayne
Bulpitt and Alan Craft!!

him with the Chief Scouts
Personal Award and to Scouts
Ireland a collection of original
memorabilia from the 1957
Jamboree.
The Epping Forest Pipe Band

lively ceilidh.
P.A.T or ‘Pets as Therapy’ are at
Reunion.
Ben (the Brown one)
and Jack (the black and
white one) are Cavalier
King Charles spaniels
and are here with us
at Reunion. Along with
their owners Margaret
and Nigel Smith, they
represent the Pets as
Therapy team. For those
who don’t know what
that is, little Ben and Jack
told me, they are pets
who visit people in care
homes and hospitals.
They visit nursing homes
and youth groups such
as Beavers, cubs, scouts
and Guides.
He’s a record breaker!

Mexico who actually
lives in Bangkok and is a
pilot, will be attempting

This year marks the 15th
Birthday of the Scout
Information Centre. Over the
years, the team of friendly
and helpful advisers have
answered over 1.5 million
enquiries by phone, email and
in person here at Gilwell and
at local events near you. Did
you know that the team spend
nearly 2,500 hours each year
on the phone to members
providing advice, guidance
and support. Every Scouting
question you can possibly
think of has been asked, from
where does a certain badge
go on the uniform to complex
questions about Policy,
Organisation and Rules and
activities.
Sharon Hartnup, the Scout
Information Centre Manager
said “The Scout Information
Centre is here for you; the
members. The team has a
huge amount of personal
Scouting knowledge and
strive to ensure they can
provide as much advice,
support and guidance as
they can, in a way which is
relevant no matter what your
role is in Scouting. To quote
one recent caller who said “I
always get a practical answer
whenever I call”, and that’s
what the team does best!”
It’s not just questions and
answers that keep the Scout
Information Centre busy
though! The team also issue,
on average, 1,442 Section 19
Minibus Permits per year and
can arrange for Groups to see
the Changing of the Guard
at Buckingham Palace from
within the gates, gain tickets
to Trooping the Colour; as
well as a whole host of other
services to help and support
members.

recently. Gill Clay is BPs
grandaughter and is
here this weekend with
all of us at Reunion.
When speaking to the
Express, Gill said that
she is delighted to see

Jill has visited Reunion
several times over the
years and has some
special memories. One
of her favourites is her

those who don’t know,
the Gilwell seesaw is
no ordinary plank of
wood on a pivot. It’s
a large log which is
swung by a rather long
rope. Gill certainly has
an eye for adventure.
Gill also commented
to the Express that she
is very much looking
forward to the campfire
and of course, the
other celebrations
for the remainder of
the weekend. Gill is
spending her time here
at Reunion, with the
Life Friends of Scouting.
