Kids’ Camp, June 27, 2015
For CHD Kids and Siblings Ages 5-18
“Everyone has a movement to lead in line with their personal mission in life. Too often we convince
ourselves that we’re not capable, that we don’t have the skills, or that we’ll fail. We must dream big.
Seek inspiration. Set goals. And seize the day!”

About Daniel Horgan, Kids’ Camp Facilitator
Daniel has been designing and leading training workshops and seminars for youth and adult audiences
for more than 15 years. He is an energetic and hands on trainer that engages participants from start to
finish and inspires them to think differently, identify and leverage their strengths, grow and take action.
Daniel’s training sessions primarily fall within the following topic areas: teambuilding, leadership
development, diversity, problem solving, change management, performance management,
communications and presentation skills, volunteer management, service learning, and partnership
building. He customizes each session based on targeted learning objectives, audience, and desired
actions. Equipping workshop and seminar participants with the tools and knowledge to succeed in
achieving their personal and professional goals is of extreme importance to Daniel in his quest to be a
curator of inspiration in each of his trainings.
D. G. Horgan Group is a social enterprise that drives impact through effective leadership, from the
board room to community room to the classroom. Our training and development experiences and
programs help youth, adults, teams and organizations fully leverage their power, potential and
purpose. We drive a double impact through our business model: for every adult we engage in our
training and development experiences, we facilitate leadership development programs with a youth.
About the Kids’ Camp
This NEW Kids’ Camp is designed to empower kids ages 5-18 by teaching them leadership skills.
Teaching is done using games and puzzles that kids are sure to enjoy. Kids will also learn the value of
service by helping other kids. They will conduct a service project with Give Kids the World to help other
kids with congenital heart disease and other serious illnesses. Most of all, kids participating in this camp
will have fun!
Mended Little Hearts – Youth Leadership Camp Agenda
June 27, 2015, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Graduation 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
9:00-10:00 a.m.
Introductions and Ice Breakers
Youth will get to know each other in an interactive ice breaker that involves
movement to energize the group and has everyone learn each other’s names.
An overview of the youth leadership camp objectives will be discussed with an
opportunity for youth to establish their group norms. A hands-on exercise called
“A World of Service” has youth envision their ideal community as a starting point
for discovering their ability to make their mark.
10:00-10:45 a.m.
Self-Discovery
As youth reflect on their skills, experiences, and strengths, they explore
similarities and differences among youth participants through an exercise that
fosters human connections. Youth will then engage in an exercise called “Puzzle
Scramble” in which they work in small group to assemble puzzle boards while a
variety of obstacles surface causing youth to “scramble” to complete the
challenge and further reflect on all that they have to offer their network of family
and friends, school and broader community.
10:45-11:00 a.m.
Break
11:00-11:45 a.m.
Teamwork
Using puzzles and blindfolds, youth will work collaboratively to assemble a puzzle
while learning the value of both followership and leadership. Further exploring
the stages of group development, youth will complete a challenge where they
need to assemble themselves into a 5-point star without speaking (additional
obstacles will surface as well).
11:45-12:15 p.m.
Lunch
12:15-1:15 p.m.
Goal Setting
Youth will explore goal setting through an assembly line exercise where they
need to work together as a team to achieve both preset group goals and goals
that they establish through consensus. Using SMARTER goals, youth will reflect
back on the World of Service exercise to develop a vision for a community
project that they can lead.
1:15-2:15 p.m.
Creativity – Brainstorming and Decision Making
Youth will put their creativity to the test in a bridge building exercise that
showcases the importance of brainstorming, planning and decision making.
After learning several brainstorming techniques, youth will expand upon their
community project vision through an exercise called “Roadmap to Impact.”
2:15-3:00 p.m.
Problem Solving
Youth will develop solid problem-solving skills through an exercise called “Maze”
where they will also further practice leadership and followership. Through Maze,
youth will consider potential pitfalls to their community projects and collectively
brainstorm solutions.
3:00-3:15 p.m.
Break
3:15-4:00 p.m.
Impact in Action
We will invite a guest speaker from Give Kids the World to share an overview of
his or her work and engagement opportunities for youth post-conference. Youth
will also participate in an onsite service project in support of the youth and
families that are hosted by Give Kids the World every week.
4:00-4:30 p.m.
Reflection
We will wrap up the youth leadership camp with a few short activities that
engage youth in reflecting on their experience, their newly evolved skills, and
how they plan to make their mark.
4:30-5:00 p.m.
Graduation
Youth will be joined by their families to celebrate their completion of the
Mended Little Hearts Kids’ Camp.
