Created by industry specialists, it integrates with various Autodesk applications to enable you to design piping systems more easily and more quickly. The benefits of PipeDesigner 3D include: • Choosing parts from a database of PipeDesigner 3D entities • Configuring the system and assigning parts list and an insulation schedule • Using intelligent PipeDesigner 3D entities • Less UCS manipulation • Close integration with Autodesk applications for minimal learning curve INSTALLATION GUIDE 7 1 Software Overview PipeDesigner 3D Software Information Each PipeDesigner 3D entity contains some intelligence; for example, when you create a run of piping, PipeDesigner 3D recognizes the minimum and maximum length for the pipe, and cuts it accordingly. PipeDesigner 3D provides a number of ways to take advantage of this intelligence, including the ability to derive a Bill of Materials list from your drawing. PipeDesigner 3D is closely integrated with several Autodesk applications. You will quickly become proficient in using the software application! Installation Requirements Autodesk Application(s) Prior to proceeding with the PipeDesigner 3D program, you must have the compatible Autodesk® application installed and authorized on your computer. Refer to the installation information included with your Autodesk application for procedures. Trimble Quick Link B Tip – You must install the Trimble Quick Link software before installing PipeDesigner 3D software. If you have other Trimble applications using the licensing utility, you do not need to install another Hub; however, you must install the release of Trimble Quick Link included with PipeDesigner 3D (as an update) to ensure proper access to licensing functionality. The Trimble® Quick Link software utility allows you to easily manage licenses for your Trimble products. PipeDesigner 3D requires Trimble Quick Link for licensing and communication purposes. The software will not run without the Quick Link product. 8 INSTALLATION GUIDE Software Overview 1 The Trimble® Quick Link application has two modules available. • Trimble Quick Link Hub You must install the Trimble Quick Link Hub before you install the PipeDesigner 3D application. The Hub serves as the central communication link between the PipeDesigner 3D software and Quick Link Central (licensing server) located in our corporate offices. B • Tip – Trimble recommends that the Trimble Quick Link Hub be installed in a location easily accessible by all who need to use PipeDesigner 3D. Trimble® Quick Link Management Studio – The Quick Link Management Studio allows you to manage your licenses from one convenient location. – You should limit the number of Management Studio installations within your organization. This ensures licensing is managed in the most efficient manner. B Tip – Trimble recommends that you install at least one copy of the Management Studio at each of your company's physical locations. Additional Installation Information In order to perform the installation, you must have local administrative rights for the computer on which the application is being installed. If you have any questions, please discuss with your System Administration personnel. Before you install the software, take the following action. Close down all Microsoft Windows® based applications on the server, including e-mail software. Note – You must also close the Hub and Management Studio before proceeding. If you are using the Trimble Quick Link software with any other application, they will not have access to licensing during the installation process. Trimble recommends you install this software during a non-busy time to limit disruption of your company’s workflow. INSTALLATION GUIDE 9 1 Software Overview Common Installation Commands During the installation process, you will see the following in many of the windows. • To proceed with the installation and advance to the next window, click Next. • If you want to return to the previous page, click Back. • If you want to stop the installation, click Cancel. You will be asked to confirm the cancellation. • Finish completes the installation. B Tip – Before beginning the installation of the Trimble Quick Link and PipeDesigner 3D software applications, you must ensure that the compatible Autodesk application and version(s) supported by this release of the PipeDesigner 3D software is installed on your system. 10 INSTALLATION GUIDE CHAPTER 2 Trimble® Quick Link Software 2 In this chapter: Quick Link Modules Recommendations / Requirements Install Trimble Quick Link Hub The Trimble® Quick Link software utility allows you to easily manage licenses for your Trimble products.
