A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT
ARTWORK OF THE MONTH “YELLOW BONNET”
BY SHIRLEY BRANDNER
Shirley’s painting titled “Yellow Bonnet” is a 16 x 20 oil.
“While on an Art Ride in South Dakota, I was taken by a
young mother pulling her young daughter across a
dusty, dry field in a wagon with a lamb walking next to her.
I followed and got closer with my camera; I couldn’t help
but notice this beautiful baby girl with the large yellow
bonnet trimmed in yellow lace. It was the perfect picture to
paint!
I consider myself self taught. After moving to Arizona I
took a workshop with Lloyd Johnson and Tom Kutshied.
Currently, I study under Jane Bradley from whom I have
learned so much about portrait painting. I love to paint
both landscapes and portraits.”
Shirley Brandner
I
Thanks to everyone who brought in their
representation of "The Desert". We really have wonderful
artists in our group. We have planned some exciting
demos for the summer - to get us ready for the fall exhibit
and show season. In June we will work on artist
statements, bios, resumes that focus on who we are as
artists. In July we will learn how to photograph our art to
show how great it is. In August we will learn to finish off
our art to make it gallery ready. All of these programs will
help us promote and sell our art. In May we are voting for
next years officers. If you are willing to serve on the board
as treasurer or vice president, please let Carole Sierka
know. We also need a Demo chair and a show chair. I
found this past year rewarding, working with the board and
all the members. Thank you for allowing me to be you
president.
Keep on creating
Loralee
