Achieving sustainable, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly transport systems is one of the key European aims. Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) are an instrument which contributes to reaching the climate, energy and environmental targets set by EU leaders and is promoted by the European Commission in relevant documents such as the Transport White Paper, Action Plan on Urban Mobility and Urban Mobility Package. This joint workshop of the EU co-funded projects CH4LLENGE and EcoMobility SHIFT will introduce participants to the principles of sustainable urban mobility planning. The SHIFT tool measures city’s transport performance against 20 indicators specifically developed for European cities. Cities that have undergone the EcoMobility SHIFT scheme can also get their results externally verified through a SHIFT auditor and obtain a label for their achievements.
