¡Felicitaciones! It is admirable that you have chosen to continue your study of Spanish through Higher Level. As you
know, the purpose of this course is to have you ready to excel on the IB Spanish Higher Level Exam, which will be
administered in May of 2016.
The IB Spanish Higher Level course provides students with the opportunity to acquire or develop an additional language
and to promote the understanding of other cultures through the study of language. The course is designed for students
who possess a degree of knowledge and experience in the target language. Those learning a language B at higher level
should be able to follow university courses in other disciplines in the language B that is studied. (Taken from:

This summer assignment for this class integrates the use of technology while maintaining the integrity of language
acquisition through real-life experiences.
Spanish IB HL is a class that is for highly-motivated independent learners and is an intense and demanding course. Our
goal is for you to receive a 5 or above on the exam.
Our summer assignment will be linked to the topics that we will be studying and you will do 1 activity of reading, 1
activity of listening, 1 activity of writing, and 1 activity of speaking.
ALL THE ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE TURNED IN THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL – Wednesday, August 5th, 2015. The recording
(for the speaking portion of the assignment) should be received by 7:30 a.m. on August 5th. Remember, the summer
assignment is to be work on the summer, not the last days of summer.
For each section, you need to include your name, topic and resource that you used for the activity.
I. Reading: This summer reading is La casa de Bernarda Alba , de Federico García Lorca. You can find the reading in:
http://www.usuaris.tinet.cat/picl/libros/glorca/gl003d00.htm. It is important that you continue to develop your reading
comprehension skills as well as to broaden your vocabulary. You are required to complete the reading of the ACTO 1 and
the activities, available in this packet. This assignment is due on the first day of school (Wednesday, August 5th). An exam
on this reading (ONLY Acto 1) will take place the first Wednesday, August 12 or Thursday, August 13 – depending when
your class meets (50 pts). Please, be aware that we will be reading the Acto 2 y Acto 3 the following weeks in August.
II. Writing: A partir del texto siguiente, expresa tu opinión personal y justifícala. Elige uno de los tipos de texto
trabajados en la clase de español SL. Escribe de 150 a 200 palabras (50 puntos). Due the first day of school!
No necesitas viajar para conocer otras culturas, mira a tu alrededor y te encontrarás con el mundo.
Be careful not to translate directly from English to Spanish, nor use an online translation service, because you may not
receive a score for your work.
III. Listening: You will visit some of the following sites and listen to at least 1 audio resource that is interesting to you.
Complete the audio log at the end of this packet. (25 pts) – Due on Wednesday, August 5th.
