Please bring the following supplies to your workshop:
Flat and half-round bastard file for shaping wood stakes - any hardware store ~ $4 each - 12/set
Planishing Hammer - some will be available to borrow ~ $35 - $40 from any jewelry supplier
Deadblow Mallet - 200 to 300 grams/wt. - Nylong or Delrin is best, rawhide with shot also good ~ $30 - $50 - jewelry supplier or hardware/tool
supplier. Some available to borrow.
Goldsmiths Hammer - aka Thumb Hammer - some available to borrow, jewelry supply houses
Metal Shears - Aviator snips are best for these projects - cheapest at Menards ~ $13
Tool to open foldforms - similar to an oyster or a butter knife - in your kitchen drawers $0
Files for copper and bronze if you want to use different ones from filing your wood stakes $ ?
Copper and Bronze wire - 16 to 12 gauage, small amounts for bails and other uses - I’ll have some but bring what you have. Don’t go out and
purchase.
Copper and Bronze sheet in 24 gauage – bring your own or purchase from me (6x12” - $7.50)
You will be using very specific hammers for foldforming. I have purchased enough for the class and have modified all the peens to save time. They
will be available for purchase at $42 each. There may be some available to borrow. Also, you may already down the proper hammer so bring all
double-peened hammers in your tookbox, specifically 200 and 300 gram ones.
You will need a block anvil to work on. I have some for sale – and a couple of 8x10” block anvils for the class to share. Having your own is best, a
6x6” block if possible.
Rules, sharpies, both fine and wide liners, paper shears, old manila folders for paper models.
Handtools like flat nose pliers, needle nose pliers, nippers and most especially half-round pliers.
Graph paper and notebook for designing.
There will be two books being used for the workshop – there will also be handouts. I have studied extensively with the masters who invented these
books already, and I will have some available at a reduced rate for those who do not already own them. $ ?
Safety glasses required *** Earplugs are a must!! Mask if you are lung-compromised.
Sandbag and tooling stamps for decorative embellishment, if desired.
Leather gloves for holding metal for sinking/forging – I use padded bicycle gloves.
Sandpaper in various grits from 220 to 400
I will be contacting all students prior to the class to assess their needs for the class. I am willing to get any supplies for you. Purchasing in bulk saves
in both cost and shipping.
$15 Studio fee + approximately $75-100 Supply fee (copper, bronze, hammers, wood for stakes, forms for the hydraulic press, patinas, and books) to
the instructor. = $90-$115

Supply Fee
All workshops have a minimum $ studio fee. Fees are collected at the end of the workshop and are
payable by check or credit card. MU no longer accepts cash.
You also can expect to pay a supply fee of $75-100, plus a studio fee of $10. The instructor will be collecting the materials fee
and any fees for equipment sold at end of class.
