Attention: Reference: Emerson Sulphur dioxide (S02) Safety Notification and MicroWatt Field Support Proposal For over 20 years MicroWatt has been your independent, authorized distributor for Net Safety. Emerson Process Management acquired Net Safety and MicroWatt continues as your exclusive Distributor in Western Canada. We are obligated to inform you that a Product Safety Notification has been issued by Emerson for products which you purchased from MicroWatt. Overview Emerson / Net Safety Monitoring Inc. has identified a potential safety concern affecting the operation of the following SO2 sensor and sensor/transmitter models; ST330A-100-ASSY MLP-AR-ST1300-20 MLP-A-ST1300-20-SEP MLP-AR-ST1300-20-SEP-SS MLP-A-ST1300-100-SS MLP-AR-ST1300-100-SEP MLP-A-ST1300-500 MLP-AR-ST1300-500-SS MLP-AST1300-500-SEP-SS ST330S-100-ASSY MLP-A-ST1300-20-SS MLP-AR-ST1300-20-SEP MLP-A-ST1300-100 MLP-AR-ST1300-100-SS MLP-A-ST1300-100-SEP-SS MLP-AR-ST1300-500 MLP-A-ST1300-500-SEP MLP-AR-ST1300-500-SEP-SS MLP-A-ST1300-20 MLP-AR-ST1300-20-SS MLP-A-ST1300-20-SEP-SS MLP-AR-ST1300-100 MLP-A-ST1300-100-SEP MLP-AR-ST1300-100-SEP-SS MLP-A-ST1300-500-SS MLP-AR-ST1300-500-SEP UT-PX-XX-ST1300-XXX Also in scope are the sensor element replacement models ST330-20, ST330-100, ST1300-20, ST1300-100, and ST1300-500. The Potential Effect stated by Emerson is: “When exposed to sulfur dioxide gas, the sensor may report a gas concentration reading that is less than the actual gas concentration. Depending on alarm levels at which the instrument is set, the detector may fail to alarm on exposure to a dangerous level of target gas.” Since the identification of this issue, Net Safety has discontinued these products from its offering. 1 IMMEDIATE IMPACT – Installed Systems, Open Orders and Projects Due to the nature of the failure mechanism, Net Safety recommends that the sensor be taken out of service immediately and replaced with a comparable product. 1) Freight costs: Net Safety has agreed to cover shipping expenses for returned sensors. Channel partners have been authorized to use Net Safety’s freight account so that its freight services provider may arrange for pickup. 2) Technical support, logistics management, handling: Net Safety will not pay any administrative fees for technical support, logistics management, and handling of returned sensors. MicroWatt Support Proposal MicroWatt is deeply committed to its customers and the support of Emerson/Net Safety products, however, Emerson is not offering MicroWatt or the end user any form of SO2 replacement product. MicroWatt is also partnered with Honeywell Analytics, the largest gas detection manufacturer globally, which can supply a suitable and cost effective alternative. MicroWatt is prepared to provide our customers world-class products and expert services to simplify the entire replacement process, in the event you decide to follow the Emerson recommendation of removing these products from service. For each instrument we remove and replace as per the program, we are prepared to provide customers a credit of up to $1200.00 applied against MicroWatt’s program cost, dependent upon your product configuration. Please coordinate with your MicroWatt Account Manager to secure the benefits of this program. 2 Net Safety Monitoring Inc. 2721 Hopewell Place NE Calgary, Alberta, Canada Phone: +1 403 219-0688 Fax: +1 403 219-0694 March 25, 2015 Attention: Plant/Production Safety Officer IMPORTANT PRODUCT SAFETY NOTIFICATION Reference Number 201503171 This letter is to notify affected customers of a potential safety concern involving: ST330 Millennium II Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Electrochemical Sensor Our records indicate you received the product affected by this notification as identified in Appendix “A”. Please forward to all appropriate individuals immediately. Failure to take action could result in a loss of process control, property damage, serious personal injury or death. The models affected are ST330A-100-ASSY and ST330S-100-ASSY. The concern is poor accuracy across the temperature range of the sensor. When exposed to gas concentrations, the sensor may not be able to maintain adequate accuracy levels relevant for alarm setting. Since the identification of this issue, Net Safety has discontinued this product from its product offering. Potential Effect When exposed to sulfur dioxide gas, the ST330 sensor may report a gas concentration reading that is less than the actual gas concentration. Depending on alarm levels at which the instrument is set, the detector may fail to alarm on exposure to a dangerous level of target gas.
