Thomas’s Tidbits
MEWOW! Greetings Humans!
Spring has sprung at the shelter! My cat buddies and I are so
glad for the warmer weather. We love to lay basking in the
rays of the sun in the driveway.
There are a lot of exciting Holidays coming up in May!
May is Chip Your Pet Month. If your “rulers’ of the humans”
are not chipped make sure you stop by the Rabies Clinic here
at MHF on May 9th. A microchip is about the size of a piece
of rice and is implanted under the skin as a means of identification (we all know you would be lost if your ruler was lost).
May is National Pet Month. If you are interested in opening
your home and your heart to your own “ruler of the humans,” we would love to work with you to find the perfect
family friend. Simply, click HERE to see my animal friends
that are willing to rule your home and your heart. Then click
HERE to fill out an adoption application so the MHF humans
can make sure you are worthy of my friends’ love!
May 3rd is Hug Your Cat Day. Anyone who has met me
knows I love to be hugged and treated like a king. If you
haven’t met me, well, what are you waiting for? If you join
our team of volunteers I will greet you when you come to
visit. Click HERE to find out how you can start volunteering.
May 4-10 is Be Kind to Animals Week. Do you need an idea
on something special to do for the animals in your life? How
about a subscription to BARKBOX, PurrPacks, or BarkShop?
Your animals will love it plus you will be helping my friends
at the shelter. Just use the code: Middleburg.
Purrs,
Thomas

Featured Animal:
Hope is a young English Bulldog. She was severely neglected &
dumped in a kennel overnight at a county shelter the last week of
January in the freezing weather. She was 13#, severely ill with upper
respiratory & covered in urine & feces. Fast forward to April & Hope is
35# & the happiest little girl, always so happy to see everyone! You
would never know she is special needs by her personality. Unfortunately
this precious girl has a congenital defect that makes her completely
unaware when she needs to use the bathroom. She has no nerve
sensation to tell her when she needs to urinate or defecate so she
needs to wear diapers indoors or be confined to an area that is easy to
clean. She doesn't mind her diapers & wears them like a champ, in fact
she's quite adorable in them! She gets along great with other dogs &
could easily live with dog savvy cats. Her love & personality far outweigh
her little defect, she just needs someone to open their heart to her!
May 3rd is the annual celebration of
National Specially-abled Pets Day!
This day is set aside as a day to educate the
public about caring for disabled pets, features
disabled animals looking for a home & also
encourages animal lovers to consider choosing
a disabled pet when they are looking at
adopting a new pet family member.
Featured Volunteer:
Christine Patterson has been a volunteer since 2010 and is the loving mom to
3 MHF alumni dogs & 2 MHF alumni cats. She works with many of the more
challenging dogs & always stops in to socialize with the cats. Thomas loves
when Christine comes to visit because he knows she always has chicken in her
pocket. She often helps us with various office projects & she is one of our
go-to people when we need something handwritten. She has fostered animals
for us but luckily for Gus (previously Abe) & us she is also a “failed foster”
meaning she couldn’t bring him back & is going to adopt him.! Her bake sale
items are always to-die-for & we enjoy being “quality control” before the sale.
Thank you for all your time you have put into MHF, Christine!

FERAL CATS MHF has TNR’d (Trapped, Neutered/Spayed, &
Returned) 135 feral cats so far in 2015!
BUDDY & BELLA
These two best friends are in need of a lifelong home OR a
foster home! Their mom had to move to Africa & MHF took
them in because they are special needs. Buddy, the little
white Maltese X is a diabetic. He is doing great but must
have his insulin injections twice a day. Bella, his girlfriend is
a little pistol! She is a wonderful little girl once she trusts
you but she is a Chihuahua who feels she rules the world &
must protect her best friend Buddy! They are very clean,
house-trained, love belly rubs & they love to play with toys.
MHF will pay for all medical & food if we can find a foster.
Jackson
Jackson the Rooster was living in very cramped & dirty
quarters with a few hens. He was being pretty tough on the
hens so the owner willfully released him to us rather than
"eating him for dinner." This is a young gorgeous rooster
who either needs to be a single chicken in a garden/farm/
yard - he is pretty to look at and good with people, or we
can try him with other chickens if there is plenty of room!
GEORGIA
This adorable little girl named Georgia was transferred from
Potomac Highlands Animal Rescue (PHAR). She is a Boxer X
& has a deformed left front foot, but that doesn't seem to
slow her down. She is very sweet & likes attention.
KITTENS
Kitten season has officially begun The first kitten of the
season was found in the middle of a large 300-acre field all
alone & screaming when she was 4 weeks old. The second
kitten was found alone in a barn & was freezing cold. Luckily they found him when they did! He was about 10 days old.
MARTY
Meet Marty! This adorable little guy was found as a stray in
WV but no one claimed him. He was not using one of his
hind legs so the finders turned him over to PHAR. PHAR has
worked with MHF for over 20 years & they will call us when
they have an animal that needs extensive or emergency
veterinary care. MHF agreed to take Marty in. Dr. Michael
Stickland at Leesburg Veterinary Hospital determined that
he had an old dislocated hip & would need a FHO (femural
head osteotomy) surgery right away. Marty did really well
for the surgery & everyone at Leesburg Vet fell in love!
Marty is now recovering really well. Marty is another example of the great things that MHF does all because of YOUR
support! Thanks again for helping us help them.
