April, 2015 Volume 1 Issue 8 600 Harristown Road Glen Rock, NJ 07452 Glen Rock Middle School Teacher of the Year It gives us great pleasure to announce the Glen Rock Middle School Governor’s Teacher Award for the 2014-2015 school year. The award is given annually to a teacher who is creative and innovative in the classroom, employs effective instructional techniques and develops a love of learning in students. This teacher has been with us for 5 years and an educator for 10 years. She continually demonstrates excellence in the classroom and is well respected by students, her peers, parents and administrators alike. She is a special education teacher, and currently advises our yearbook. The 2015 Governor’s Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Eileen Besser. Principal Thompson and Teacher of the Year recipient Mrs. Besser. The staff celebrated the announcement on Wednesday morning with a cake cutting and Mrs. Besser was presented with a bouquet of flowers for her accomplishments. The winner was chosen from her peers as well as parents and Congratulations, Eileen on a job well done!! administrators. 2015 Talent Show Outside Recess Spring has arrived! All Middle School students have been enjoying lunch recess the past couple of weeks outside and will continue to go outside for the remainder of the school year as long as the weather cooperates. The students are playing kickball games, football and throwing the frisbee around during this downtime period of their school day. Glen Rock Middle School will be rocking out next Thursday night! Join us for the Middle School Talent Show next Thursday, April 23rd, in the Middle School Auditorium for an exciting lineup of performances featuring student emcees, and your classmates dancing, singing, and playing guitar and piano. Curtain rises at 7:00 and tickets are $3.00 at the door, with all proceeds to be donated to the Karol Ebeling Memorial Scholarship. PARCC Update The testing window for the End of Year PARCC Assessments for the Middle School students will open on Monday April 27 and will close on May 22. Please refer to the following link for more information regarding the Middle School PARCC schedule: MIDDLE SCHOOL WEBSITE GRMS Celebrates March Madness There was basketball madness in the GRMS gym this March as students battled each other and students battled teachers. During the March Madness Spirit Week, Student Council hosted a “Wear Your College Gear Day” and a Knockout Contest for students during study lunches. Students were split up among 4 baskets in the gym and competed to be the winner at each basket. The winners moved on to the Students Vs. Teachers Foul Shot Contest the following day. Teachers from all grades and subject areas signed up to Principal: Mr. Edward S. Thompson Assistant Principal: Mr. Brian J. Pepe compete against the student knockout winners as the remaining students looked on as anxious spectators. With each basket, the crowd went wild! Both students and teachers then enjoyed free time to shoot some hoops and revel in their victories.
