Ronald visited our school to talk to our students about character. Ronald’s message touched on important themes such as, knowing that it’s what is on the inside of a person that matters and that character is defined by the choices you make when no one is looking. Ronald encouraged students to try their best and never give up. Ronald surprised the students and some un-suspecting teachers by getting them up out of their seats and on stage to help out with short skits to that demonstrated what good character looks like. One of our favorites was Mrs. Porter (P9) and Mrs. Fujii (P8) who participated in a skit about trustworthiness. Pre-‐school celebrates Dr. Seuss On Friday March 6th our pre-school students celebrated Dr. Seuss and opposites by reading, “Green Eggs and Ham.” Students enjoyed a breakfast of green eggs and ham made by their teachers. Our pre-schoolers really liked trying new things and even got to help in the preparation of their breakfast. Reading and learning can be tasty and fun! Complex Choral Festival On Tuesday March 10, 2015, the Complex Choral Festival was held in the Mililani High School gymnasium. Under the direction of Mililani Uka Elementary School’s Chorus Director, Mr. Puzon, The Egret Chorus wowed the audience with a trio of melodious tunes. The night was filled with students singing from all of the (5) elementary schools, a performance from the Mililani Middle School chorus and the final school to perform was Mililani High School. All of the schools were amazing and we are looking forward to next year’s festival. Getting to Know You…. This month we have a very special person we would like to introduce you to. Her name is Mrs. Tanouye and she is our new Vice-Principal. Mrs. Tanouye started her teaching career at Kipapa Elementary School many years ago and has had several positions with the Department of Education. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her position here at Mililani Uka. One of her earliest memories as a child was when she visited Liberty House with her mother and was told by a fortune-teller that she would grow up to, “take care of children.” Mrs. Tanouye has been building many relationships with our students, and also has children of her own. She has three children, two sons and a daughter. Mrs. Tanouye has been married for 39 years! (Congratulations) Mrs. Tanouye has proudly displayed her family photos in her office. In her free time, Mrs. Tanouye enjoys sewing and having High Tea. If you ask Mrs. Tanouye what her mantra is, she will tell you, “Begin each day with a grateful heart, and count your blessings.” She also says that her colleagues would say she is helpful. Be sure to stop in and visit our VicePrincipal, Mrs. Tanouye. ! ! ! It’s Spring again, and how better to celebrate our last Quarter of school than with our Spring Fling & ‘Aina Family Night? In addition, you will also have a chance to see what our keiki have done throughout the year in the ‘Aina in the Schools Program, as presented by the students themselves. Find out more about this amazing program, created through the Kokua Hawai’i Foundation, in person and see how you can get involved. Mililani Uka is currently the ”‘Aina in the Schools Featured School” and can be found at https://kokuahawaiifoundation.org/aina . Come and join us! ! May 5th is our Staff Appreciation Day!
