Mission:
The mission of Milwaukee Collegiate Academy (MCA) is to nurture scholars capable of
transforming their world, by sending them to and through college.
Vision:
MCA will be a leader in providing quality high school education offering an innovative
blended learning curriculum in all subjects that meets students at their current level and
helps them achieve academic advancement.
Intended Impact:
MCA focuses on students who come to us with a wide variance in achievement, providing
them with the character and academic skills necessary to go to and through a four-year
college. While other metrics such as ACT and Explore scores measure our progress, our
intended impact is measured by two outcomes:
• Percent of seniors accepted and enrolled into a four-year college; and
• Percent of alumni that graduate college.
Overview:
Milwaukee Collegiate Academy is seeking a new Principal to lead our school in fulfilling
our mission and vision for. MCA is proud of the progress it has made over the last four
years and is excited about the future. MCA is looking for a leader who is deeply
committed to the students that we serve and believes in their capacity to be successful.
Under new leadership MCA will continue on its current path to prepare our students to be
able to effectively participate in the transformation of their world.
Today MCA is serving 250 students grades 9-12. Our students come to the school from
all over the City of Milwaukee. At MCA, we take and create every opportunity possible to
ensure that our students grow and develop the academic skills and the character traits
they need to persist through college. MCA has a structured, caring and disciplined
environment that also allows for our students to be themselves and enjoy the beauty of
being young.

MCA has high expectations for not only our students but for staff and board as well.
MCA demands hard work from our students and staff while providing amazing support for
both.
Strategic Direction:
School year 2015-16 will be the third year of implementing a Strategic Plan that calls for
growing our student population to 350 by 2017. The Board is also considering a growth
plan that would lead to the creation of a Charter Management Organization that would
add additional school(s). MCA is looking for an individual who can lead that process in
the very near future.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal will be expected to assume the responsibility of providing inspired
leadership, guidance and direction to the staff and students of MCA in the following
areas:
Educational Leader:
• Supervises and evaluates all direct reports.
• Works with the staff to oversee planning and evaluation of curriculum and
instruction.
• Maintains a current knowledge of developments in curriculum and instruction with
a focus on blended and personalized learning.
• Participates in professional activities to enhance her/his knowledge and skills and
shares that expertise with staff.
• Constantly communicates mission and vision of MCA to staff and students.
• Works to ensure compliance with the guidelines established by the Wisconsin
Department of Education and ensures implementation of administrative
procedures for Special Education, Title and other programs consistent with federal
law, state school law.
Chief Operating Officer of the School:
• Implements the policies approved by the Board.
• Reports to the board on the status of school operations and academic
achievement of students.
• Recommends actions and alternatives to the Board to improve school operations
and enhance and improve student achievement.

Acts as liaison between the board and staff.
Informs the board about the status of meeting requirements of the Charter School
Review Committee.
Informs the board about rules and regulations of the WI Department of Education
and state and federal laws.
Informs the board about current trends and developments in education.
Serves as an ex-officio member of the Board. Works with the Board Chair, to set
agendas and documents for meetings. Attends committee meetings as invited or
necessary to ensure the effective and efficient running of the school.
Works with the designated staff to direct marketing efforts as needed to ensure
budgeted enrollment.
Maintains, directly or through delegation, student, personnel, business and other
records according to school policy.
Makes administrative decisions necessary for the effective and efficient operation
of the school, including working with consultants, as needed.
Provides leadership for the development of a systematic plan for continuous
school improvement
Supervision of Staff:
• Oversees the assignment of personnel.
• Create a leadership team to assist in the implementation of the strategic direction
of the school.
• Works with leadership team to develop a recruitment plan to ensure the school
has a high quality staff.
• Oversees the implementation of a personnel evaluation system that differentiates
the performance of employees within the school.
• Oversees employee discipline consistent with Board policies and employment
standards.
• Makes decisions on retaining or dismissing staff.
• Recommends to the board salary changes for staff.
Facilities Management (Security and Safety Management).
Works with the Director of Operations to:
• Prepare long- and short-range plans for use of the facility.
• Ensure the maintenance of school property.
• Monitor any construction, renovation, or demolition of school facilities.
• Maintain and implement policies for the use of school property.
• Oversee and implement policies for safe school facilities.

Financial Management:
Works with Director of Operations to:
• Prepare the overall school budget.
• Report to the board on the financial condition of the school.
• Ensure that expenditures are within limits approved by the board.
• Oversees preparation and dissemination of financial reports to required
stakeholders.
• Monitor compliance with policies and laws.
• Establish and monitor procedures for procurement of equipment and supplies.
Community Relations:
• Articulates educational programs and needs to the community.
• Maintains contact with news media.
• Participates in community affairs.
• Communicates with and understands the needs and perspectives of various
outside groups and stakeholders.
Support Services for Students:
• Oversees efforts to provide students with all needed services inside and outside of
the school.
• Monitor student data collection and state reporting.
• Implement policies and programs relating to behavior and discipline of pupils.
• Maintain programs for the health and safety of pupils.
Skills:
The candidate to become Principal of MCA should bring to this role the following
professional skills to lead MCA:
• An informed understanding of charter schools and their role in providing public
education in Milwaukee.
• The ability to develop a strong team that can lead the effort to provide a quality
education for the students at MCA.
• An understanding of how to deliver a strong blended and personalized learning
approach to instruction for MCA students.
• The capacity to establish and maintain a strong management and working
relationships both internally and externally to achieve the mission and vision of
MCA.
• Outstanding communication skills, both orally and written.

A clear understanding about how to work with and on behalf of the student
population that attends MCA.
The ability and willingness to engage in fund raising to ensure that MCA will have
the resources it needs for the successful operation of the school.
The ability to help MCA navigate the contentious political environment around
education reform that exists in Milwaukee.
Experience:
The candidate to become Principal of MCA should bring to this role the following
professional experiences to lead MCA:
• A proven ability to develop and lead effective teams inside of a school.
• A track record of excellent operational execution and management of a school by
being able to effectively use data as a guide to instructional and organizational
plans and practices.
• The ability to work in an effective and collaborative way with a Board of Directors.
• A proven capacity to build a strong culture in a school while leading a change
oriented environment.
• A track record of attracting, recruiting, retaining and developing a high quality staff.
• A minimum of a Master’s Degree is required.
• Must currently have a State of Wisconsin Principal’s license, or be eligible for one,
or is willing to do what is necessary to get one in the appropriate time frame.

Reporting Relationship:
The Principal reports to the Board of Directors of MCA. The Chair of the Board serves as
the Supervisor of the Principal for the Board.
Evaluation:
The Principal’s performance will be evaluated by the Board of Directors using an
evaluation tool that aligns with MCA goals and expectations.
Compensation:
The salary for the Principal is highly competitive and organizational benefits include
medical and dental insurance as well as 403(b) participation.
