SEMI-CONTACT RULES
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Semi-Contact fighting is continuous fighting were the competitors are padded. Padding includes; Head
gear, mouthpiece, chest guard, hand pads, foot pads, shin guards and groin cup. For competitors 13
years and above (including adults) chest guards are not permitted.
LEGAL TECHNIQUES
Here is the basic techniques that are allowed in semi-contact fighting; Axe Kick, Elbow Strike, Fore-fist
Thrust (basic punches), Front Kick, High Round House Kick, Low Round House Kick, Knee Kick, Side Kick,
and Leg Sweep Followed By A Non-Contact Thrust.
ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES
Attacking A Downed Competitor, Any Kind Of Strike To The Face Or Head With The Hands Or Forearms
Or Elbows, Grabbing, Groin Kick, Head-butt, Pushing With The Head And Attacking, Kick To The Face
(kicking allowed to the padded area of the head as described below), Kicking To The Back Of The Head,
Straight Kick To The Knee, Any Straight Kick Below The Belt, Strike To The Neck, Pushing Of Any Kind and
Striking To The Spine.
RULES BY AGE GROUPS
In the 4 to 7 year old groups contact will be permitted only to the chest guard. No foot sweeps are
permitted in the 12 and under divisions. Contact to the padded area of the head is permitted to the 8
year and above divisions (including adults).
THE MATCH
In the 4 to 7 year old groups the rounds will last 45 seconds with one extension round of 30 seconds in
the case of a draw. In the 8 to 12 year groups the round will be 90 seconds with one extension round of
60 seconds in the case of a draw. 13 years and above (including adults will be two, two minute rounds
with a 90 second extension in case of a draw.
THE DECISION
Points given; The fights are based on a one point winner take all decision. Half points are also given and
taken away from competitors. Anytime during the match if a competitors is downed or their will to fight
is broken for 4 seconds or less, a half point will be award to their opponent. If a fighter is downed or
their will to fight is broken for 5 seconds or more, one full point is awarded and the fight ends.
Points taken away; If a competitor commits a illegal technique a warning is given. After two warnings an
official warning is given and a half point is taken away. Repeated another half point is taken away and
now that competitor has one full point in the negative and their opponent wins.
