This is also a day for lovers to celebrate. Many young people take the opportunity to celebrate by organizing bonfires with dancing and partying through the night. In Szczecin it will be held on 20/21 of June. It is a tradition that men jump over bonfires; girls put wreaths of flowers into the river to predict the future of their relationships judging from the patterns the wreaths make on water. People will be dressed in medieval costumes as this celebration is associated with the Middle Ages. They will try to show how people lived and worked at that time. There will be tents put up in the castle’s courtyard with ancient musical instruments, hand-made good luck charms you can buy to protect you from evil or increase your fertility. Goran Bregovic concert – Szczecin Music Fest 2015 When: 07 July, 8 p.m. Where: Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle Tickets: http://bilety.fm/pl/muzyka/914-bilety-nakoncert-goran-bregovic-7-lipca-2015-o-20-00-naduzym-dziedzincu-zamku-w-szczecinie.html Goran Bregovic describes himself simply as a contemporary composer. Why then does his “contemporary style” sound different from other contemporary composers’ music? The answer is simple: Goran is from the Balkans. And in the Balkans, the meaning of “contemporary” is very different. His Weddings and Funerals orchestra is composed of a gypsy brass band, traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, an electric guitar, traditional percussion, strings and Orthodox Church male singers . Where does their inspiration come from? One can find echoes from Jewish and Gypsy weddings, chants from Orthodox and Catholic Church as well as Muslim invocations. His music comes from that disturbed frontier where Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Muslims have been living together, entangled for centuries in the complexities of war and peace. This is music that our soul recognizes instinctively, music which makes us want to dance. There are not many tickets left, so hurry up if you do not want to miss this concert. FOUR WORKS – exhibition/ Gilad Ratman When: June 14–August 28 Where: Trafo, ul. Św. Ducha Info in EN: http://www.trafo.org/index/exhibition/id/197 Born in Haifa in 1975, Gilad Ratman established himself as one of the leading international video artists with The Workshop, his acclaimed 5-channel video installation shown at the Israeli national pavilion in the 2013 Venice Biennale. His exhibition in TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art will be comprised of four large video installations spanning 6 years of creation, 588 Project (2009), Multipillory (2010) and two new ones – Five Bands from Romania (2015) and Swarm (2015). More than an exhibition of 4 separate and self-contained works, the scale and simultaneity of the works installed over 4 floors of TRAFO will create a single installation reflecting physical and topographical layers within the exhibition. As a whole, the show addresses issues of contemporaneity and the human condition in front of changing political and technological realities.
