HARMONY DAY: Harmony Day officially falls on Saturday 21 March so we’re
celebrating this Friday. It’s also the National Day of Action Against Bullying and
Violence. All students will be making and sharing a personal pledge to show their
commitment to being kind to others.
FETE NEWS: What a fantastic day! We had a bumper crowd and made a bumper
profit: around $15,000. What is going to happen with all that money, I hear you
ask? The P&C is currently funding the library for blinds and furniture. Beyond that,
if you come along to the next P&C meeting we’ll chat about how the new funds
may be put to best use.
Thank you to the army of volunteers who set up and cleaned up on fete day,
and manned the various stalls and activities. Thanks to everyone for all of the
donations you provided too. But special thanks must go to the handful of parents
who made it all happen by door knocking businesses for prizes over many months,
organising the huge range of activities, arranging publicity, making the seemingly
thousands of phone calls, text messages and emails to ensure things ran smoothly,
and so on. What an effort! Thank you!
Outback Steakhouse at North Wollongong donated all of the barbecue food
and provided labour to cook the steak and sausage sandwiches. We’re extremely
grateful and hope that many of you will consider supporting their restaurant.
Just in case you missed it, here are the winners of the raffle.
Congratulations to each of you and thank you to everyone for supporting the raffle.

WEBSITE UPDATE: Have you visited the Principal’s Blog? This week I’ve
commented on why I believe our school has achieved great improvement in
academic growth, as reported in the Sydney Morning Herald. Please have a look.
MERIT AWARDS: Any student who joins Mt Ousley from another school is
encouraged to bring in any merit awards gained elsewhere. We’ll have a look at
those awards and give credit in our own red merit currency. Our aim is to reward as
many students as possible with a school medal by the end of their primary
schooling.
RUGBY 7S: The rugby 7s competition in Kiama, originally scheduled for Tuesday
31 March, has been postponed to early in Term 2. Notes have been sent home with
interested Stage 3 students today.
SINGING & DANCING TEACHER: i98 FM has a competition in which one of the
Mt Ousley staff is a finalist. The prize is a trip to the US to see Taylor Swift in
concert, and Mr Dixon needs your vote. Please visit the i98 competition page and
show your support. But you’ll need to do it immediately because voting closes
tomorrow at 12:00pm.
CROSS COUNTRY: The school cross country carnival is being held on Tuesday 24
March on the school grounds. All children K-6 will participate, with children in Years
3-6 (as well as anyone turning eight this year from Year 2) racing from 9:15am. The
12 and 13 year olds will be first to race. K-2 will race straight after lunch at
12:20pm. Sports uniform should be worn.
EASTER HAT PARADE: Families may wish to make a start on hats for our Easter
Hat Parade on the last day of Term 1. All students are encouraged to participate
and hats may of course be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Year 6 buddies
will assist Kindergarten students to make a hat at school, but you’re welcome to
make and use an alternative hat from home. Our parade will take place at 9:10am
on Thursday 2 April under the COLA just up from the memorial wall, as soon as
children have put bags inside and had their names marked off for the day.
MOPS FM: This year’s first MOPS FM episode aired at Monday’s assembly. If you
missed it, look out for it on the Podcasts page of our website. It’ll be there shortly.
Congratulations to Angel W, Samuel C, Kiara M and Jackson C who put together
their first production, featuring stories on Life Education, band and the swimming
carnival.
CONGRATULATIONS: The following students from each of our classes were
awarded prizes for their entries in the fete poster colouring-in competition.

Bianca G and Keely F. Great work!
CANTEEN MEETING: (repeat message) A canteen meeting has been scheduled
for Wednesday 25 March at 3:00pm in the 3/4B classroom. We’ll be reviewing the
new healthy choices menu and everyone is welcome to attend. We’d love to have
your input.
PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS: By now arrangements should have been made
for those who wish to conduct a parent/teacher interview over the coming fortnight.
In preparation, think about the most important few things you’d like your child’s class
teacher to know about your child. We want to support every child as best we can.
PHOTO DAY: Photo order envelopes will be sent home today. Please check details
are correct. Sibling packs are available to collect from the school office if you
