Moran Iron Works to Build Components for Environmentally Friendly
Alpine Power Plant in Gaylord, Michigan
Onaway, MI. – Moran Iron Works (MIW) has recently been awarded the contract to supply design, engineering,
fabrication, and installation of two exhaust systems for Wolverine Power Cooperative (Wolverine). The exhaust systems
will be installed at Wolverine’s new Alpine Power Plant located in Elmira Township near Gaylord, Michigan. The plant
will utilize two General Electric Frame 7FA.05 turbines for natural gas to generate over 430 megawatts of nameplate
electricity.
MIW’s exhaust system design will employ noise abatement guidelines and will result in two of the most efficient exhaust
systems in use. It is expected that the systems will require 700 tons of steel to construct.
Victor Ruppert, Senior Project Manager, will be leading the project for MIW. Fabrication will begin late summer 2015
with first product delivery in December 2015. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with a great Michigan company
like Wolverine Power Cooperative” states Mr. Ruppert. “Made in Michigan for Michigan creates value for all of us and
keeps Michigan employees working.”
”Wolverine is excited that an integral component of the Alpine Power Plant will be constructed by a prominent Northern
Michigan company,” said Brian Bejcek, the Alpine Project Manager. “Wolverine has enjoyed a long and successful
relationship with MIW and eagerly anticipates the installation of a high-quality exhaust system based on the
workmanship that we’ve come to expect from them.”
