Community Garden news
The Mount Royal Community Association
will be re-starting Citizen Patrol walks to
help keep our neighbourhood safe.
Greetings! We are excited to start this school garden & we
welcome the neighborhood!

We hope to kick off the planting season after May long weekend.
This is a school group effort between our First Nations Students
& Newcomers to Canada. All year we’ve been working together on
getting to know each other.

Unusual, or large, emergencies caused by
extreme weather or man-made events
can happen at any time. Now, when an
emergency happens, Saskatoon is ready
to respond. Notifynow will let residents know what
to do, where to go, & what to expect
during an emergency with a message sent
directly to their landline, cell phone, or
email. How does it work?
When an emergency alert is issued, you
will receive a voice message to phone; an
email; or a text message depending on
your preference. To receive notifications,
residents must have some form of contact

confidential & will not be used for any
purpose other than to contact you in the
event of an emergency.

To date, we’ve been planting tomatoes, beans & peppers & have
a green house in Mrs. Geres’s room. We’ve observed a CHEP
representative in learning to sample soil & learned about its
nutrients. This garden is a huge project we’re excited about. Our
garden is going to be 6000 sq. feet. So we have lots of room to
share so that the community can come & grow their own food.
We’ve had garden tools donated & we’re getting a tool box made
that will be inserted in the ground with a lock & key. We hope to
be learning to compost not only at school but at home too!

Backyard Fire Pits
Saskatoon Fire & Protection Services has identified 6 conditions
that every fire pit used within city limits must comply with in
order to avoid being fined:

Fire must be contained within a non-combustible fire box
constructed of material such as cement, brick or metal &
covered with a heavy gauge metal screen. SFD recommends
that fire pits be situated at least three metres from any
combustible materials (i.e. fences or buildings).
The size of the fire box of any outdoor burning facility shall
not exceed .61 cubic metres.
Only cut, seasoned wood or charcoal shall be used to fuel
outdoor fires. Burning tree branches is not permitted.
All outdoor fires shall have responsible supervision at all
times.
No person shall light an outdoor fire when the weather
conditions are conducive to creating a running fire.
If smoke from an open-air fire causes an unreasonable
interference with the use & enjoyment of another person’s
property, the fire shall be extinguished immediately.

(CAG) to provide the City with advice & feedback on plans for
cycling in Saskatoon.
The Cycling Advisory Group:

Provides citizens’ perspective, advice & input to City
Administration about cycling facilities, policy issues &
programs.

Supports a vision that the City of Saskatoon is a place
where cycling is encouraged as a reasonable & practical
method of travel.

Acts as a liaison between cyclists & the City on matters
related to the planning, development & management of
infrastructure, safety of cyclists & the public.

Provides assistance in identifying cycling priority issues,
opportunities & solutions.

about traffic safety in the Mount Royal neighbourhood.

Residents of Mount Royal are invited to attend a public
meeting to identify & discuss local traffic issues in the
neighbourhood. The meeting will be hosted by the City of
Saskatoon, Transportation Division. The Transportation
Division will examine the issues identified at this meeting,
gather additional information through traffic counts, &
prepare a comprehensive plan to address traffic concerns
across the entire Mount Royal neighbourhood.
It’s very important to tell the City of Saskatoon about
your traffic concerns. If you can’t attend this meeting,
