• Soccer ball • Air pressure of ball • Height of drop • Surface soccer

Types of Variables
Variable – Any factor that can change in an experiment
1. Independent Variable
 The factor that is intentionally changed by the investigator
 There can be only one in an experiment
2. Dependent Variable

The factors that will change as a result of the independent variable
 The factors that you measure or observe as data
 There can be one or more dependent variables
3. Controlled Variables (constants)
 The factors that are kept the same in an experiment to allow for a fair test.
 There are many controlled variables in an experiment
Dependent variable
Ex. Does changing the temperature of a ball affect the height the ball will bounce?
Independent variable
Controlled Variables:





Soccer ball
Air pressure of ball
Height of drop
Surface soccer ball lands on
Force used to release ball
