Soft Fold
The soft flow of this style is created by hobbling the face fabric onto the lining
at regular intervals. This creates cascading soft folds at 6” intervals.
While still tailored, this style has a wonderfully soft feel. The flexibility of this
style lends itself to use with all kinds of fabrics from full-bodied heavy fabrics
to softer more lightweight ones.
Please note that when using a pattern with a large return, the pattern will be
interrupted at each pleat/fold.
No decorative trim upgrades available.

Roman Shades
Plain
This is a structured, contemporary look that requires minimal dressing. Stay
pockets on the back of the shade create pleats which look great with most
fabrics.
All fabrics look good with this style, but it should be noted that stay pockets
do interrupt the prints. This shade stacks very efficiently due to the stay
pockets.
No decorative trim upgrades available.

Roman Shades
European
The sides of the shade curve upward when the shade is raised. This softens
the entire look of the shade as the fabric gathers in random soft folds.
Casual softness with a sense of ease and comfort, the flexibility of this style
lends itself to use with all kinds of fabrics. From heavyweight prints and
textures to the most lightweight ones, all look wonderful in the relaxed style.
Small tack stitches used to attach the cord rings are visible on the
face of the shade. When first installed this style should be pulled up
fully and left in place several days to create “pleat memory”.
No decorative trim upgrades available.

same size top pleats
Note fabric restrictions.
Note minimum width.
Scoop
Shades 60”W and under have 1 scoop
Shades wider than 60”W have 2 scoops
Be advised: This shade takes manual adjusting to achieve the desired effect.
It is not recommended for frequent use, but more as a decorative shade.
See page 48 for fabric care and maintenance instructions.
Roman Shades
Flat Fold
A simple, elegant, tailored design with no horizontal seams or stitching. This
tailored style is an excellent choice for fabrics with large scale patterns that
look best without interruption. When fully extended the entire pattern is
displayed.
Small tack stitches used to attach the cord rings are visible on the
face of the shade. When first installed this style should be pulled up
fully and left in place several days to create “pleat memory”.
No decorative trim upgrades available.

These Drapery Panels are sold as single panels in pre-set widths. Our Sizing Solutions recommendations allow for a minimum of
2.5:1 fullness and are intended as a guide to help in choosing the best pre-set width panels for your window area.
If less fullness is preferred, then:
Select your window width row on the Sizing Solutions chart and order the recommended panel width(s) and # of units from the ROW
ABOVE. This will give you less fullness. Or, consult your window coverings sales representative to choose which pre-set widths are
best suited to cover your window.
• Once you have determined the panel width and number of
panels needed to cover your window width, consult price
chart to choose specific length and determine price.

How to Measure
The Soft Styles
SHOP COLLECTION
How To Measure
Measure carefully using a steel tape measure to assure accuracy.
Roman Shades
Drapery Panels
Inside Mount
The Roman Shade will hang within
the window frame Providing a clean,
built in look.
ALL PANELS ARE SOLD AS SINGLE PANELS NOT IN PAIRS.
They come in pre-set widths and are made to length to the 1/2”
Width:
Measure the width of the window area you’d like to cover.
Minimum window depth
required: 1-1/2”.
Take time to plan your installation and get the measurements correct.
Measure: Width – in 3 places (
top, middle & bottom) & use the
narrowest dimension.
We recommend adding an additional 4”-6” to each side from the edge of
the window glass.
This allows the drapery panels, when pulled to their sides, to clear the
window allowing more natural light in.
Length – in 3 places (left, center &
right) & use the longest dimension.
Consider the decorative hardware
you’ll be using to hang the
panels from.
Outside Mount
The Roman Shade will hang outside
the window frame or molding.
Finials add another of 6-8” (3”4” for each finial on both ends
of the pole) to the total space of
window/wall area you’ll need.
To be used when there is not enough
window depth for an inside mount.
Mount to surrounding wall, ceiling or window frame/molding
Consult our SIZING SOLUTIONS
charts for selecting the correct
pre-set panel width and number
of panels to order.
No minimum window depth required.
Measure: The width & length of window area you want to cover.
If space allows, we recommend adding 1”-11/2” of width and height to each
side of window (2”-3” total) to reduce light penetration from edges of shade.
Our recommendations allow for
fullness that is already built into
the panels.
45
How to Measure (continued)
EXAMPLE:
Window height = 84” L
Length:
Finished panel length is
measured from the top of
drapery panel to the bottom. It
includes the rod pocket (either
11/2” or 3”, but does not include
the header), grommets, pleats
or tabs (either on back or top of
panel).
Mount Hardware 4” above window = 88” L using 11/4” bamboo hardware
uses Small Wood Rings to attach to panel = − 21/2” = 851/2” L panel
851/2” L panel - 1/2” floor clearance = 85” L
This must be factored into your length measurements.
Consider the additional height
you will gain when hanging the
panels from decorative poles.
Sheer Undertreatment Lengths:
It is recommended that when sheers are being used as an undertreatment,
they be ordered with NO HEADER and shorter in length than the Drapery
Panels they will be mounted under. Mount sheer drapery hardware
1” lower than the decorative hardware used for the outer panels and
measure down to floor, but about 1/2” shorter than the drapery panel
length chosen. This way the sheer’s top edge and bottom hem clear the
tops and bottoms of the outer drapery panels.
It is recommended to mount the
pole approximately 4” above the window frame.
Drapery Panel Length Advice:
You can specify any length desired to the 1/2”
If the panel is being mounted directly onto a pole through the rod pocket,
grommets or tabs, no additional length is added.
Floor Length panels should be 1/2” above the floor for easy operation.
The finished panel length you
provide to the 1/2” will be the
exact measurement the drapery
panel will be made to.
Puddle Length panels should have another 6”-10” of length to pool the
fabric on the floor. This length is not recommend for high traffic areas or
drapery that needs to be opened and closed often.
When using clip rings to attach Rod Pocket or Parisian Pleats to a
pole, note that clip rings will add approximately 2”-4” of length.
Therefore, subtract that extra length from the final length of the panel
to be ordered.
Pole Mounted Valances
11/4” Metal rings add 23/4” of length
Pole Mounted Valances are sold as pre-set sizes in single units.
11/4” and 13/8” small Wood rings add 21/2” of length
Each style has a unique shape & size.
17/8”
We suggest to order 1 valance for every X “ of window width depending
on the style.
and 2” large Wood rings add
31/4”of
length
As with the Drapery Panels, consideration must be given to the hardware
the valances will be hung from. The window/wall width you’ll need to
cover and the extra length that clip rings will add to the valance.
46
How to Measure (continued)
Board Mounted Valances And Upholstered Cornice Boards
REMINDER:
2 return (depth) sizes are available:
These styles have Pre-set drop lengths. No lengths are to be specified.
They’re made to the 1/2” width.
• 4” for mounting over blinds and shades
For Upholstered Cornice Boards:
Add a total of 2” to the trim to
trim/window edge to window edge
measurement to compensate for the
width of the wood sideboards + the
fiberfill batting.
• 7” for mounting over drapery treatments.
Decorative Hardware Poles For Mounting Drapery
Panels & Valances
Measure the window/wall area you want to cover with drapery panels/
pole mounted valances.
EXAMPLE:
For a tight to window frame fit:
We recommend mounting hardware 4” above and 4”-6” beyond each
side of the window frame, if space allows.
If window width is 100” wide add 2”.
102” wide outside will be 100” inside the cornice box.
REMINDER:
Clip rings will add 2”-4” of length to your panels. Refer back to Drapery
Panels: Length section for more details.
For Board Mounted Valances:
NO extra inches needed
The top wood board used equals the exact width specified. NO wood
side boards are used in these styles, fabric hangs off the edge of the
top board.
Then consider adding an additional 1-6” to each side for either Board
Mounted Valances or Upholstered Cornice Boards over OUTSIDE
mounted UNDERTREATMENTS like drapery panels (including the
drapery hardware width) or blinds/shades. Take that measurement as
your total width and then follow the instructions above.

Care Instructions
The packaging and shipping of soft treatments frequently results in
minor wrinkling of the fabrics used.
100% Polyester:
• If necessary, steam polyester or gently iron on a low heat setting
to remove stubborn wrinkles. 100% Polyester fabrics release
wrinkles easily. Steam or iron on the Polyester / Synthetic Fabrics
setting (Low), but be aware that Polyester will melt if the iron is
too hot.
There are different characteristics and handling needs for the
variety of fabrics offered in this program.
Please refer to the descriptions below for guidance on how to
remedy minor wrinkles upon delivery.
Cotton/Poly blends:
First, allow all items to hang for a few days so wrinkles relax and
begin to fall out.
• If necessary, gently iron on a Blended Fabric (Medium) setting to
Silk fabrics:
• Natural irregularities give the fabric its unique and desired
character. The appearance of slubs, nubs, loops and barre ridges
are universally accepted as normal and should not be considered
defects.
• Silk should be lined with Thermal Sateen or Blackout lining to
avoid colorfading.
• If necessary, steam silk to remove stubborn wrinkles. Please note
that a good quality steamer is needed so water spots won’t form
from water spitting out from the steaming device.
100% Cotton and 100% Linen:
• If necessary, gently iron on a Cotton (High) setting to remove
stubborn wrinkles.
remove stubborn wrinkles.
General Cleaning Guidance:
• Dry Cleaning is the best method to clean soiled soft window
treatments.
• However, on 100% Polyester, Cotton/Poly blends and 100% Cotton
or 100% Linen you may: Spot clean with warm soapy water using
mild detergent and a clean sponge. Air-dry and then steam or iron
as guided above.
Rayon/Poly blends:
• If necessary, steam rayon/poly to remove stubborn wrinkles.
Please note that a good quality steamer is needed so water spots

Glossary
Ascot valance
Decorative top treatment that is shirred on a rod, known for its
triangular shaped drop.
Cornice
Decorative treatment at the top of a window usually made of wood.
Upholstered cornice boards are constructed of fabric and
upholstery batting covering a wood box-like structure used to
neatly frame windows, add architectural interest and hide hardware
used for undertreatments.
Back tab
Hidden tabs on the back of each panel through which a drapery rod
is inserted to create a tailored drapery effect of soft, neat folds.
Cotton
Natural fiber manufactured from seeds of the cotton plant. Fabric is
soft, sturdy and cleans easily.
Blackout lining
Heavyweight fabric made from a poly/cotton blend with acrylic

excellent sun fading protection for decorative fabric.
Double layer scalloped valance
Double layer effect combines coordinating fabrics and colors.
Scalloped edge detail creates a tailored, yet easy-going style.

Return
The distance from the face of the rod to the wall or casing where
the bracket is attached.

Glossary (continued)
Shaped valance
Pair of fabric treatments cut on an angle on the inside edge to
create softly shaped folds when shirred onto a drapery rod.
Thermal backed
This feature offers additional insulation for windows where outside
temperatures, draft and noise can be more noticeable. With acrylic
foam-backed draperies, there is no need for an additional liner.
Sheers
Any group of very transparent fabrics such as crepe, voile, etc.
Thermal sateen lining
A medium weight cotton or cotton/polyester blended fabric,
constructed of lustrous long yarn floats for a smooth sheen finish
and backed with acrylic latex foam. The insulating foam protects
homes from heat and cold and damaging UV rays which can cause
furniture and carpeting to fade.
Shell
The outer covering of a piece of drapery or apparel, as opposed to
the lining or insulation.
Shirr
Inserting a rod into a rod pocket in a gathering motion. This builds
fullness in a curtain, pole top drapery or non-stationary valance.
Tieback
Strip of fabric or other material used to hold a drape to the side of
a window.
Side hem
The folded and finished edge along the sides of a curtain panel.
Top treatment
A decorative window treatment of many varieties that is often used
to cover hardware from an undertreatment.
Silk
A natural fiber reeled from silkworm cocoons. Fabric is lustrous,
lightweight and drapes well.
Tuck valance
A fabric sewing technique where pleats are formed and stitched at
regular intervals. Upon mounting on a drapery rod and shirring to
half its width, the tucked-in pleats form balloon like poufs.
Stackback
The amount of space a drapery occupies when drawn open.
Allowing for stackback provides exposure of more window
glass, especially desirable for a pleasant view or additional light.
Stackbacks can also make a window look larger.
Undertreatment
Layers under the top drapery or curtain. May include blinds,
shades, sheers or semi-sheers.
Swag
Fabric piece that is folded and draped to hang in a semicircle at
the top of a window. Similar to a scarf, but a more formal,
constructed shape.
Valance
A horizontal, decorative, fabric treatment used at the top of the
window. A valance can be used alone to hide hardware or as an
embellishment on top of draperies. Also called a top treatment.
Tab top
A panel or valance with straight loops (tabs) sewn to the top for
hanging on a decorative rod or pole.
Waterfall valance
A fabric sewing technique where deep folds of fabric are sewn into
a U shape, creating a waterfall or cascade effect.
