On what was a beautiful Friday morning, our
Year 6 students worked together in groups
to set up a huge selection of fun and games
for the whole school to enjoy between recess
and lunch. The Autumn Fair is run by the
students each year to raise funds for their
end of year camp and this year’s total was a
whopping $2132.15!!
Great behaviour and enthusiasm ensured a
fun day was had by all.

From the Principal…
Attendance at school
Last week some of you may have received a letter stating your
child’s attendance had fallen below 90%. This figure is set by the
Department of Education and below 90% is deemed as
unacceptable. The intention of the letters was to inform you of
where your child was at.
School connectedness
The following is an excerpt from a document produced by Kids
Matter in relation to connecting at school….
Being connected at school is not about having mobile phones and
computers. It’s about knowing you can get support, that you will
be listened to, and that you can work together with school staff to
help your child learn and develop. Working together to care for
children is the best way for schools and parents and carers to
support children’s mental health and wellbeing. When schools and
parents and carers work together, children find it easier to
understand what is expected from them and are better able to
manage. They have fewer behaviour problems and do better at
school.
When parents and carers are connected to school it helps them get
support when they need it. Support may come from talking with
teachers or other school staff, or from making connections with
other parents and carers. Schools help families to connect through
having lots of different activities that parents and carers can get
involved in.
Uniforms
There has definitely been a change in the weather over the last
week or so. It is also evident that the students are wearing
jumpers, tracksuit pants and black jeans which are not part of the
school uniform. The School Board determined the appropriate
school uniform and we expect students to wear those uniform
items. The uniform policy can be located at our website or by
clicking here
http://mriverps.wa.edu.au/downloads/download-info/uniform-policy/
Harmony Day
On the last day of term (Thursday 2nd April) we will celebrate
Harmony Day as a whole school. Students are invited to wear
traditional dress on the day or come dressed in the colour
“Orange”. We also invite family members to come and share a
picnic lunch with their child at school from 1pm.
End of Term 1
This is the last newsletter of this short 9 week term. I would like to
acknowledge the outstanding work staff and students have
completed this term. As the principal of this fantastic school I have
great admiration of the work done by all our staff including
teaching and school support staff and am extremely grateful for
the support shown by our parent community. I hope everyone has
a great term break and you get to spend some quality time with
your family. Students will resume school on Monday 20th April.

Bike Camp was fun, it was a blast everyone enjoyed it. Riding up the hill
to get to camp was a bitter pill to swallow but we got there eventually.
There was so much food and free time. We had so much fun in the
pines. We went on Noodlebowl and Big Pine. We didn’t get too much
sleep that only made us a bit tired when we rode back. The activities
were fun. The food was yum and we had a great time. Bike camp was
awesome!

Bike Camp was cool and fun because we had lots
of activities and fun games. There was so much
food – juice boxes, cookies and hamburgers.
There was a new playground and the teachers
were so nice. We got sweets – ice cream! It was
yum yum mmm!
We had a night camp,
awesome, it was so good. Miss Angell said so
many speeches. Then we had to go, so we rode
back to school and Mum was cooking hot dogs
and there were juice boxes and icy poles. Bike
Camp was awesome.
Stella Hastie T4
I loved Bike Camp because everyone
got to ride with their friends and we
had a lot of fun and freedom.
Everyone enjoyed it!!!! Lilly Nelson T4
Bike camp was a
huge success!
I think everyone
enjoyed it.
My favourite activity was the rope
course. Ms Angell
was the leader of
the fantastic camp.
Some people fell
off bikes and hurt
themselves, that
was a minus.
Another minus was
going up the big
hills. Everything
else was a positive.
The teachers were
very nice and I had
a great time.

Go Kart
Build Day
Last Friday our year 6’s students got
to participate in one of their most
anticipated days of the year—
Go Kart Day.
The oval was awash with tradie’s
trailers and very enthusiastic dads,
mums, grandparents and caregivers.
Power tools, spray paints and a huge array of
recycled goods slowly came together to morph
into some amazing and creative constructions.
A huge “Thankyou” to all of the parents and
caregivers for giving up your time on the day
to assist our students in making it such a success.

Healthy Drinks at the Canteen
Water is the best drink for children to satisfy their thirst
and it has no sugar, artificial colours or flavours.
The Canteen has 600mL bottles of spring water
available to purchase for $1.50.
Plain milk is also an important drink for children as it
provides calcium for healthy bones and other nutrients
needed for growth and development.
The Canteen now stocks Brownes Plain Milk in a 300ml
carton available to purchase for $1.50.
Please let the Canteen know if your child requires a
dairy alternative that you would like the Canteen to
stock.
Garden Thankyou
Many thanks to Bunnings Margaret River for the continued support of our Year 3 garden bed program. Once
again they have generously donated a quantity of
vegetable and flower seedlings which the students will
nurture and hopefully have something to share come
harvest time. Each Year 3 class is responsible for
maintaining their garden plot and along the way
learning more about flowers and vegetables. Next year
they will join the full Kitchen Garden Program. A special
thanks to Scott who made this donation possible.

Room 16 the Juice-Makers - Written by Room 16
th
On Friday the 13 of March Room 16 made juice. We put 9 ingredients in. It included;
tomato, lemon, carrot, apple, ginger, parsley, spinach, celery, mint and beetroot.
We were excited to make the juice. We looked at some fruit and vegetables and then
walked to the kitchen garden. We looked, felt and smelt the veggies and then picked
some spinach, mint, parsley, tomatoes and a lemon. We predicted how many cups of
liquid would fill the jug. Mary guessed right that it was 6. We all put something in the
juice maker and pushed the lid down. Clare poured the
juice and then we got to drink the juice.
“It tasted like all the vegetables together” Olivia
“It tasted better than anything” Stella
“The ginger made it taste nice.” Isabella
“It was lots and lots of colours.” Thomas

Silver Threads Concert band recently added MRPS
to their schedule of stops around the Southwest
and delighted students with a fun afternoon of
singing, dancing and filled the air with the tunes of
brass. A special moment for two lucky girls had
birthdays who were invited up to conduct the band.
Silver Threads
Concert Band
Silver Threads came together by
accident in 1981 when the scheduled
band failed to turn up at a morning concert and have continued strongly
since then. They have received several grants from Lotterywest which has
enabled them to include regional areas in their touring schedule where the
underlying message is for school students to witness a band of seniors
having fun making music.
Student Health and Wellbeing
MRPS’s Code of Conduct incorporates six core values:
Cooperation, Empathy, Enthusiasm, Flexibility, Honesty and Respect
Cooperation—At Margaret River Primary School, one of our core values is Cooperation which is where we work
together to achieve success.
You show cooperation when you work in a small group to accomplish a task , when you allow each person in a
group to have a say, volunteer at home to help out and when you play a team sport and work toward a common
goal. Remember, many hands make light work.
SDERA
What can you recall about learning to ride a bicycle or wheeled device? (Feelings, skill level, who helped you to
learn to ride?) Have you been for a family ride lately? It’s not only healthy for the family, but also an opportunity
to bond together while having fun. Did you know that children are allowed to ride wheeled devices on footpaths
and shared paths, just remind your child to keep left and give way to pedestrians? As many of these devices do not
have adequate braking mechanisms, it is recommended that children do not ride on roads.
I hope you enjoyed this topic, “Safety on Wheels”, and that we have inspired you to go on family rides through our
amazing bush tracks and paths. So wipe off those cob webs, do your safety checks and fun and safe riding!
As this is the last newsletter for this term, a new focus area “Resilience and Wellbeing” will start next term.
