 MMSTC Introduction (presenters/home schools).
 Attention grabber…Why is this important for the audience to hear about? Get the audience excited about
your research! Make a connection between your research and the real world the audience lives in.
_______/30_ Organization:
 Overview of your story.
 Problem.
 Hypothesis.
 Materials (Use pictures and use arrows to give an overview of your basic setup and significant items).
 Procedures (Use pictures, videos, and/or a live demonstration – Do not use text procedures from paper).
 Results: Explain the SCIENCE and STATISTICS behind your results. What does an interaction of the two
factors or the lack of an interaction mean in terms of what you observed, what you predicted, and the
outcome of your experiment? Identify the independent and dependent variables. On graphs, explain the data
points and the meaning behind the line segments. Use uniform scales when comparing graphs. Do not show
the audience all of your data. Show only what is important. If/when you show data tables, highlight or circle
(using animation) the data that you are talking about. Never list numbers.
 Circle back to hypothesis...How does your data support or reject hypothesis?
 Include a short recap: (1) What you planned on doing(2) What you did (3) What were the results.
 What improvements would you make if you were to do this again? What would you like to research more?
How could this research be extended to make it more applicable, resourceful, or meaningful?

 Eye contact with entire audience.
 Talk only when looking at the audience .
 Posture (stance, hand gestures, movements) .
 Voice projection (So the entire room can hear you).
 No screen reading.
 The presenters are appropriately attired as to give a professional appearance (Boys= ties, tucked in dress
shirts, dress pants, dress shoes / Girls=Dress shirt or sweater, dress pants or skirt at or below knee, dress
shoes, neutral nylons or tights / Both=hair out of face).
 Clear evidence of practice, teamwork, and cooperation / Pointers or lasers used effectively (planned).
 No umms, likes, you knows, oks, or any other nervous repetitions.
 Language is clear, understandable, and appropriate for a room of peers, parents, and professionals.
 The presentation told the STORY of your research. It did not just link facts and required information.
 All technology works (videos on click) (It must work like you have practiced it a million times)

 No less than 10 minutes / No more than 20 minutes BEFORE asking for questions. -1 point per 10 seconds
over or under. 5 minute limit on questions.

 Printed PP (6 slides per page horizontal) and this rubric turned in to Mrs. Gravel just before you present.
 Error free: spelling, technology, etc.
 PowerPoint has a unified look in design and visuals (size and placement).
 Consistent font, font size, color schemes.
 Everything is readable from the back of the room.
 Includes a very cool and helpful animation of the science concept(s) (all animations must start on click).
 A 15 - 30 second video clip of procedure (video must start on click)
 Title slide (names, home schools, title)
 Proper formatting of tables, graphs, figures, etc. (links under images).
 Footer includes slide numbers in the lower right-hand corner (does not appear on title slide).
 Works Cited page for all sources/ resources using MLA style citation (Images and information)
 Uniform periods at the ends of lines.
 Six lines of text maximum per slide.
 Graphs and Tables have correct notation, uniform scales, and proper units.
 Questions slide.
 Blank slide at end . No black screen of death. Make sure this option is off.
 PowerPoint enhances what YOU say…It highlights your brilliant SPOKEN words….It is not a source of
information that can stand alone.
