Great Siege BRIEF:
Road
Classroom discipline and student misbehaviour have been the focus of several international
studies. Among the most frequent and most troublesome misbehaviours which cause great
concerns to teachers are talking out of turn (including chattering), hindering other students
from learning, student idleness and non-attentiveness. Studies indicate that effective
disciplinary strategies are indispensable in the teaching and learning process as they influence
student responsibility, student misbehaviour, teacher stress and the teacher-student
relationship.
The presentation, based on a local case study, intends to: [1] highlight the more and less
effective classroom disciplinary strategies; [2] give a clearer picture about the disciplinary
strategies resorted to more often in the classroom; [3] explore why teachers resort to particular
disciplinary measures; [4] recommend strategies necessary for creating a positive learning
atmosphere.
