VIOLIN SCHOLARSHIP AUDITIONS Sunday, May 31, 2015 2:00pm – 6:00pm AUDITION INFORMATION 1. Currently enrolled CMD students who are studying Suzuki violin with a CMD violin faculty member or who previously studied Suzuki violin with a CMD violin faculty member may apply. 2. Students who are 18 years old or younger as of September 1, 2015 are eligible. 3. Students may audition in one of the following four categories: Primary: Suzuki Violin Book 1 (Allegretto to Gavotte) or equivalent level Junior: Suzuki Violin Book 2 or equivalent level Intermediate: Suzuki Violin Book 3 or equivalent level Senior: Suzuki Violin Books 4 and above or equivalent level 4. Students must perform two violin repertoire selections from their chosen level. 5. Repertoire must be performed by memory. 6. No repeats required unless indicated by first/second endings. 7. Auditioning with unapproved repertoire may disqualify a contestant. 8. Judges are selected by the DePaul Community Music Division faculty. All decisions are final. 9. Judges are prohibited from judging their own students. 10. If in any category the judges determine there are no students who are sufficiently qualified, no award will be given. 11. Violinists must perform with a piano accompanist if a piano accompaniment is called for in the score. Students can either secure their own accompanist or, for a fee of $15, use the CMD audition accompanist. A short rehearsal time will be included in the $15 fee. 12. Teachers of winners and honorable mentions will be notified of results on Sunday evening. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION 1. The violin auditions are merit-based and recognize musical achievement at all levels of instruction. 2. Awards will be issued as tuition reductions during the 2015-2016 academic year, not as direct cash awards. 3. All awards will be made at the discretion of the judges and must be used for individual lesson instruction at the DePaul Community Music Division. 4. Awards: Primary Level First Place Scholarship – 15% tuition reduction Second Place Scholarship – 10% tuition reduction Junior Level First Place Scholarship – 15% tuition reduction Second Place Scholarship – 10% tuition reduction Intermediate Level First Place Scholarship – 20% tuition reduction Second Place Scholarship – 15% tuition reduction Senior Level First Place Scholarship – 25% tuition reduction Second Place Scholarship – 15% tuition reduction Honorable Mentions with no tuition reduction may be awarded at each level. 5. Each student will receive Evaluation Sheets with written comments from the judges. Evaluation Sheets will be sent to teachers who will then distribute them to each student.
