CHRISTIANS CELEBRATE
EASTER EVERY SUNDAY!
It was so wonderful to see your smiling and joyful faces filling up the pews on
this year’s Easter Sunday. Everyone’s glowing presence brightened our sanctuary
more than the beautiful Easter lilies decorating the chancel area! It was such a
joy to have you all - nearly 300 in attendance - for the Easter celebrations!
Pastor J.T. Kim
I gave thanks to God for our church filled with people, and, at the same time, I wondered why
we cannot celebrate the Good News of the Resurrection of Christ every Sunday, especially with
this huge turnout! So when I delivered my Easter sermon, I emphasized that every Sunday is an
Easter Sunday, and that Lent, from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, is a period of 40 days
that excludes those Sundays. Every Sunday, regardless of any Christian season, is a celebration
of the Resurrection of Christ.
I agree with The United Methodist Book of Worship’s statement:
“Sundays are always little Easters” (p. 320). American theologian
Robert E. Webber also affirmed in his book, Ancient-Future
Time: Forming Spirituality Through The Christian Year, that
“Every Sunday is a ‘little Easter.’ Every Sunday of the year is a
celebration of the Easter event. The work of the people in ‘doing the
Christ event’ through memory and hope is the source for personal
and corporate formation into resurrection spirituality” (p. 153).
The early Christians conducted corporate worship on Sundays because it is
the “Lord’s Day.” It is the day Jesus rose from the grave on that first Easter
morning. Without the Resurrection, our faith is nothing and in vain. The
foundation of faith is this Resurrection of Christ, just as Apostle Paul
proclaims, “For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been
raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still
in your sins. Then those also who have died in Christ have perished. If
for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all people most to
be pitied” (1 Corinthians 15:16-19).
However, our Christian life is not only about observing every Sunday as a
little Easter; rather, every day, we must find our strength from the power of
the Risen Christ in order to sustain our lives. Day by day we must trust in
God who is ever faithful, always renews us, and empowers us with His grace,
mercy, and love. “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily
bears our burdens” (Psalm 68:19, NIV).

Soon, I’d like to invite the congregation to sing with me the following song, “Day by Day,” that I
have cherished for over thirty years. The lyrics were composed by Karolina W. Sandell-Berg and the
music by Oscar Ahnfelt. Let me share with you the first verse:
Day by day, and with each passing moment; Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment; I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He whose heart is kind beyond all measure; Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure; Mingling toil with peace and rest…
Easter Love and Blessings,
Pastor J. T. Kim
Mission Corner
Once again, we have demonstrated God's love by participating in our Interfaith Shelter Network.
This is the 3rd year our church hosted our less fortunate neighbors. There were so many of us contributed in so many ways to accommodate our guests. Feb 14-23 we had 9 guests, 5 of them are children
between the age of 11 months to 7 years old. Then on Feb 24, Interfaith added 3 more souls, making
our shelter a full house with 12 people until the end of the month. We provided them 2 weeks of shelter, washroom, 3 meals a day, and most importantly, they experienced our love, fellowship, and care,
which they can share to the world as they move on with their lives.
Resurrection Day is the most glorious day Christians celebrate. For our church, the activity continued
on until the late evening. Our Mission Support Team greeted and met the Mission Team from Joyful
Healer UMC, Eureka, CA heading to their mission trip to Mexico. There were 19 of them; 7 teenagers, 1 child (10 yr-old), and the rest are adults. After their long and hectic travel from north, they were
greeted with warm welcome and hot meal. They came at 8:15 pm, stayed in our church overnight and
continued their travel to south of the border very early Monday. Let us pray for their safe and successful
journey.
Let us continue to support our mission, to
make disciples throughout the world. On April
26th, Mission Committee will sell some home
cooked Lunch-To-Go, good for a family of 4 for
$10. Good deal! Menu will be announced later.
All proceeds goes to Cal-Pac Global Missionary
Support.
Thank you for all your love and support.

‐7‐ Spring cleaning for a Spiritual Well-Being
Spring time is my favorite time of year. The days become longer, the sun shines
brighter, nature reborn, the air smells different and there is an abundance of beauty
all around. I feel rejuvenated in the spring. With a change in seasons, spring heralds optimism, transformations, and new possibilities.
Additionally, many of us associate springtime with the yearly ritual known as
spring cleaning. We dispose of irrelevant possessions that no longer are purposeful.
We organize and simplify to make room and enhance the beauty of our surroundings. Metaphorically speaking, spring also affords us the opportunity to spiritually
clean for our well-being.
Lynn Buenviaje
Spring is a wonderful occasion to reflect upon our individual growth. God presented us with commandments to foster our individual growth so that our hearts and bodies can be
cleansed. Therefore, before we begin our journey toward cleaning our spiritual well-being, consider the following three steps toward inviting God to clean your soul.
Redefine yourself
Press forward and leave the past behind. This is vital toward living a healthy Christian life. If we spend
too much energy dwelling in the past we become stuck, unproductive, and begin to lose focus of our priorities. Do not allow past mistakes or failures define or depress you! Does your past reflect the person you are
today? If not, replace them with new truths. Strengthen your character.
In William Shakespeare’s, Hamlet, Polonius says to his son, Laertes “To thine own self be true.” Furthermore, in Exodus 20: 16 the Ten Commandments state “You shall not bear false witness against your
neighbor.” (NIV)
Learn to let go, move on, and reconcile if possible rather than hold onto grudges. Learn to forgive and
allow room for more loving and supporting people. Ask God to help you learn how to handle difficult people and those whose personalities differ significantly from yours. Remember that God expects you to forgive
others since He has forgiven you. Trust Him to empower you through each step in the forgiveness process.
Do all you can to live at peace with others and resolve conflicts quickly and wisely.
“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I
am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:18, NIV)
Our past is a useful tool if we apply it constructively to the present. Reflecting on the past can give us
insight into our strengths and weaknesses as a maturing Christian. Acknowledging our faults can be the
stepping-stones to success if we’re honest about our shortcomings and mistakes. God doesn’t want you to
beat yourself up over past losses or mistakes, instead he wants you to repent and implement real change that
reflects obedience, faith, and submission to his will. Carefully examine issues or patterns that had a negative
impact on your life and pray for God’s guidance to show you how to eliminate clutter that no longer serve
you or your purpose. Don’t allow your history to interfere with your present blessings! Mistakes are opportunities to learn valuable lessons.
Let go of old habits
One advantage of spiritual spring cleaning is how energized you’ll feel when you de-clutter. When you
relinquish old habits and change your pessimistic outlook you release darkness and allow the light of God to
fill your spirit. In other words, “Let the Son shine in! “ Involve God in every aspect of your life. Consider
the following verses:
‐ 8 ‐ 1 Corinthians 1:9
God ... is the one who invited you into this wonderful friendship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (NLT)
Psalm 56:13
For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God,
in your life-giving light. (NLT)
Make a daily concerted effort to change. Open your mind and heart to explore new ideas, truths and opportunities; however, also be aware of your actions. Stop, meditate, and pray about your choices before you followthrough. Enrich your spirit with optimism. When your choices reflect God’s will, you acquire a sense of renewed energy and zeal for life and your God-given purpose.
Revitalize yourselves
God presents us amazing opportunities when he opens our eyes every day. He revitalizes us to become the
person he created us to be. Just like springtime we have a chance to cultivate new growth. When you are rejuvenated and spiritually restored you’ll experience a rebirth. Your old self dies and a sense of urgency for a new
and fruitful beginning occupies your thoughts and will manifest through your lifestyle. Your confidence and
esteem level are heightened during the rebirth, not in a prideful manner, but a godly manner because you are
secure in him and his will for you.
It is never too late to recharge your spiritual life. Ask God for guidance. “Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me,” (Psalm 51:10). He wants to develop a closer relationship with us.
Take a spiritual inventory of your life. Is Jesus your cornerstone? Have you ever felt too tired and overwhelmed to confront the demands of everyday living? Have you asked Jesus for help? Our Father and Son are
ALWAYS near and ready to give a helping hand.
“Am I a God who is near,' says the LORD, 'and not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that
I shall not see him?' says the LORD. 'Do I not fill the heavens and earth?' says the LORD." (Jeremiah 23:23-24).
Those who desire a renewed spirit are not afraid of the challenges to come. Additionally, do not be afraid to
go where the Spirit may take you. Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Let faith be your guide and not fear. “Let us
be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet” (1 Thessalonians 5:8)
Remember, Father and Son long to establish a relationship with us. Scripture reminds us to draw close to
him, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your
loyalty is divided between God and the world “(James 4:8, NLT). If we desire to improve our spiritual well-being,
we must meditate on God’s Word, and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit to work in our lives and to lead the way.
In John 15:1-5, Jesus compares Himself to a vine and God to the gardener: “[God] cuts off every branch that
bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me..."
A life with Christ is worth living. No one ever said being a Christian would be easy. On the contrary, Christians must worker harder to “clean out their minds, bodies, and spirit” to continue walking and growing in
faith. However, just think how rejuvenated you will feel when you’re done.
In closing, I would us to meditate the following New Testament verses:
"May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus,
that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is
pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen." (Hebrews 13:20-21, NIV)
So let us roll up our sleeves and get to work!
Peace and Blessings to ALL
