Shoreline Advisor, Nature Alberta Nature Alberta requires an outgoing individual to work as a Shoreline Advisor based out of Red Deer, Alberta. The duration of the work term is approximately 3 months (June-August). Express your passion for water ecology and conservation by developing and delivering outreach programs for The Living by Water Project. Living by Water is a unique educational program that teaches waterfront residents about environmentally-friendly practices that will help maintain shoreline and water health. We encourage shoreline residents to respect the role shoreline habitats play in the enjoyment of their everyday lives, and try to emphasize how important it is to recognize the potential impacts that day-to-day activities have on aquatic systems. The Homesite Consultation is the cornerstone of this educational process. It aims to directly teach residents about the positive actions they can take to maintain healthy shorelines. Shoreline Advisors work directly with the residents on their property to offer suggestions on how to protect the lake and encourage environmental stewardship. Ideal candidates should be committed to best practices in environmental education and outreach, as well as have a passion for the conservation and protection of Alberta’s natural history. You must have strong interpersonal skills, be outgoing, and work well both independently and in a team environment. Both oral and written communication skills are foundational to your work as a shoreline advisor. The successful candidate will be provided with two weeks of paid training in Edmonton and will be responsible for their own accommodations during that time. Responsibilities include (but are not exclusive to): Independently conduct homesite consultations on shoreline properties within the Red Deer River Watershed. Independently write and produce reports for residents participating in the Homesite Consultation Program; Analyse data and write final reports. Create and present educational and awareness-building presentations for a community audience. Participate in shoreline assessment training and educate yourself independently on topics relating to shoreline ecology and limnology. Attend conferences to further your knowledge on conservation marketing, environmental education, and natural science background. Qualifications: Enrolled or graduated from a post-secondary institution working toward a degree or diploma in environmental studies, natural sciences, or a similar discipline. Experience working independently. Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills. Sense of humour and willingness to engage people directly. Knowledge of riparian and water related topics an asset. Plant identification skills are an asset. Willing to work on holidays and weekends. Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License and have access to a vehicle. Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Ability to work holidays and weekends is required.
