Becoming A Volunteer Team Leader
We would first like to thank you for considering becoming a Volunteer Team Leader (VTL) and
for your willingness to serve. This role is critical to the Volunteer Operations Team because it
provides our Volunteers with the support and guidance they need to deliver outstanding service.
Last year, 300 plus volunteers worked a total 2,818 hours under the leadership of VTL’s and the
rest of the Volunteer Operations Team. Jointly this team added to the success of 2014
conference in Atlanta, Ga.
Being a VTL allows you the opportunity to be a part of the conference experience. It affords you
the experience of working a major conference, sharing your skills and talents, and simply just
lending a hand. It is also a great networking opportunity and an affordable way to be a part of
the National Black MBA Association, Inc.’s Annual Conference, which attracts yearly over
10,000 participants that includes businesses, corporations, and organizations. For whatever
your reason is to volunteer, we need your time, talent, and commitment to serve at 2015
conference.
Additionally, for your service as a VTL you will receive a Full Complimentary Registration for
next year’s conference, a 2015 1-Day Career Fair Pass, meals (breakfast & lunch) and a parking
voucher at a lot selected by the National Black MBA Association.
Central Florida Chapter will be hosting a Volunteer Team Lead recruitment meeting on
Saturday, April 4, 2015, from 2pm to 3pm. The meeting will be held at the National
Entrepreneur Center 3201 East Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL. 32803

of a monitor of conference volunteers.

Must be recommended by the Local Chapter Volunteer Coordinator.
Must be available to volunteer the entire week of the Conference.
Can commit to volunteering 8-10 hours each day, in minimally 5 hour blocks
of time.
Can volunteer flexible hours to include as early as 5am or as late as 12am.
Must attend a mandatory training for VTL’s and Conference Volunteer
Orientation.
Role of VTL’s
•
To ensure adequate volunteer coverage and outstanding volunteer service
delivery.
•
To work 5 hours a shift and be willing to work at least 8 hours a day (this
includes on-call availability during conference hours).
•
To become familiar with the roles and responsibilities of the volunteer job
assignment (this will prepare VTLs to conduct job briefing with volunteers).
•
Assist/Facilitate, briefing sessions with volunteers 45 minutes prior to taking
Volunteers to their assignment.
•
Ensure that Volunteers are properly dressed with the correct assignment
badge.
•
Assist Volunteers with electronic sign-in and out of an assignment.

Cont. Role of VTL’s
•
Escort Volunteers to their assignment and introduce them to the On-site
Lead.
•
Monitor assigned Volunteers and to assist in troubleshooting jobsite issues
•
Submit manual sign-in and out forms at the end of each shift, when used.
•
To provide outstanding customer service.
•
Attend daily volunteer team debriefing.

VTL’S REWARDS FOR SERVICE
•
VTL’s will receive a Complimentary Full Registration for the 2016 National
Black MBA Association Conference and Exposition.
•
VTL’s will receive a Career Fair Pass for 2015 conference (but can only stay
on the Career Fair floor for 2 hours; time may be extended if
coverage is not needed by Volunteer Operations).
•
VTL’s will receive a parking voucher to offset the cost of parking each day
at parking lot selected by the NBMBAA.
•
VTL’s will receive hotel accommodations starting Sunday, September 20th
with checkout on Saturday, September 26th.
•
VTL’s will receive breakfast and lunch.
