Bamboo Investors Meet 2015
Investing in Green Gold

Background
Madhya Pradesh is the largest forest State as well the largest potential bamboo area State.
There is untapped potential of bamboo based development and entrepreneurship. There exists
tremendous prospective of bamboo based rural livelihoods opportunities, and bamboo industry
can play a significant role in the rural economy of the State. On the demand side also, there is
an unprecedented rise in all kinds of bamboo products. In order to bridge the gap, it is
envisaged to organise a meet from the perspective of the buyers / investors where they would
be informed about the potential availability of raw materials and skilled man power within the
State in terms of bamboo industry. The meet will also address their concerns regarding the
quality and quantity of produce and other issues. In short, the meet will bridge the gap between
investors, the Government and bamboo artisans.
Objectives of the meet

The meet aims to bring together all stakeholders to achieve the following objectives:1. Identification of potential investors specific to the bamboo sector.
2. Identification of specific projects and areas where investors have a scope of infusion of
investment.
3. Formulation of an effective draft MoU framework in the light of the MoEF guidelines, and
other legislations.
The overarching goals of the meet are area extension under bamboo cultivation, skill
upgradation of traditional bamboo artisans and setting up of bamboo based industries. This
meet will explore the opportunities and support the establishment of







Technologically advanced modern Bamboo nurseries to ensure supply of quality seedlings and also
carry out R & D on new varieties
End use based high tech high quality bamboo plantations with enhanced productivity
State of art Bamboo Technology Centre
Bamboo Facility Centers (BFCs) for the supply of raw / semi-processed bamboos, to carry value
addition activities & development of community enterprises
Facilities for Gainful utilization of Process Waste
Market linkages and transfer of technology
Bamboo based industries, specially the innovative industries like Textiles, Energy, Poly Houses etc

Stakeholders to be involved
Following Government Departments are be involved in the meet -:
1. MPSBM is the nodal agency for the meet. Apart from pursuing the projects of the
investors, it will also collaborate with bamboo artisans and act as a linkage between the
two.
2. TRIFAC in its role as facilitation centre for investment will ensure single window
clearance of the project.
3. Department of Institutional Finance will have a consultative role in formulating models
on which the projects will be developed viz. PPP, management contract or independent
projects.
4. Industries Department through MP Laghu Udyog Nigam, given its role as a bamboo
crafts promotion will play a vital role in promotion of bamboo based industries.
Other stakeholders from the private sector will include -:
1. Potential investors identified in the bamboo sector.
2. Established entrepreneurs who can further up their stakes in the bamboo sector.
3. Manufactures and fabricators of bamboo processing machineries and tools which will
assure the prospective investors that bamboo processing modern techniques can be
indigenously acquired.
4. Organisations providing training in high end bamboo products to artisans like National
Institute of Design, School of Planning & Architecture, GoI, NIFT, Auroville Bamboo
Centre, Tamil Nadu etc.
5. Representatives/groups of artisans who are willing to collaborate with industries.
Components of the meet
The meet will have the following essential components:1. Providing information to investors about support from Government and facilitative
policies from the State.
2. Sharing information on resource availability of bamboo and artisans in locations
identified by the investor.
3. Display of bamboo products crafted within the State which would be later chosen by the
prospective investor/ buyer.
4. Panel discussion on the identified topics.
5. B2G (Business to Government) meetings for charting out further road maps for
investment.
MP, being centrally located, can act as a gateway for the Investors for the major bamboo
products of the country.

Expected outcome
The meet is expected to infuse capital investment in the State and boost rural economy. It will
also generate livelihoods and ensure that artisans dole out crafts at par at market competition.
Role of Government as a facilitator will be surfaced and investors' friendly policies will be
formulated thereafter.
