Annual meeting ICOM in Paris 1 – 3 June 2015
ICMS chairperson Willem Hekman participated in the annual meeting of ICOM in Paris, where on the
first morning the keynote speaker gave an excellent presentation about the human brains and art. It was
splendid but for 99 % of the listeners too (medical) difficult.
In the afternoon of Monday the International Committees had their separate meeting to prepare
recommendations for the Advisory Committee. Membership problems were addressed and the financial
statements discussed. It is remarkable that in a “professional” organisation as ICOM year after year
membership problems are discussed and nothing happens.
The reception in the Louvre during the evening has been nice.
On Tuesday all the time was reserved for the meeting of the Advisory Committee with discussions
concerning the governance within ICOM and a version of the Strategic Plans. Centrally was the value of
knowledge for museums.
ICOM has 34.864 members in 136 countries. ICMS has been asked to have a workshop in Milan or at
least a presentation in the meeting of the DRTF.
The presentation of Cincinnatti (USA) and Kyoto (Japan) for their bid in 2019 has been won by Kyoto.
The ICOM General Assembly will be 1- 7 September 2019.
In the afternoon most of the time was spent in the (s)election of the themes for the Museum Day 2017
and 2018.
The General Assembly in Milan (Italy) will take place 3 – 9 July 2016. Early bird fee is 350 Euro (before 31
Dec), then 450 or 550 Euro. The pre-conference meeting is postponed till 28 and 29 November 2015 in
Brescia and Milan.
On Wednesday the Annual meeting took place with a presentation of the President’s Report and the
Financial Report. ICMS asked some questions about the expenses of ICOM which were answered
correctly.
Next year the meeting will not be in Paris but in Milan.
