Attendance at the annual meeting is a very important part of being a credit union
member, and one of the biggest factors that make credit unions special when
compared to banks.
We understand that your schedule is very busy, especially during the week.
A credit union event, particularly something that at first glance may seem

unimportant, probably isn’t high on your priority list. But we cannot stress enough
the importance of your attendance and the strength it brings to our credit union.
Besides your ability to affect how the credit union operates, the annual meeting
gives our members, employees, and volunteers (who are also members) a chance
to interact, build rapport, and learn more about each other. This helps strengthen
our ability to serve your and your family’s financial needs in ways no one else can.
It is our hope that you can make it to our annual meeting for 2015, held on
Thursday, April 23, at 6:00 p.m., at Linwood Holton Elementary School on
Laburnum Avenue. In addition to the meeting, we will be celebrating our 65th
anniversary of service to RVA! Please call us at (804) 359-8754 today to learn
more, or stop by a branch and speak to one of our friendly employees to get

Working Harder to Protect You
Better – Beginning Tuesday, March
31, 2015, you may begin receiving
calls from an automated assistant
attempting to verify recent activity on
your debit and/or ATM cards with New
Generations Federal Credit Union. This
is a legitimate, security-related call from
New Generations. You will never be
asked to share card information (such
as your card number or PIN) over the
phone. Please let us know if you have
any questions. SECURE EMV TRANSACTIONS:
The Process & Terminology
EMV chip cards are a new type of credit card, specifically designed to dramatically
increase cardholder security while providing cardholders with the opportunity to
embrace contactless, and even mobile payment, at the point of sale (POS).
EMV cards can be used to make in-store purchases, two different
ways:
Contact EMV – In this type of transaction, an EMV credit card is
inserted into a point-of-sale terminal slot, which activates the chip
and then reads the card data to authenticate the card. In order
to then verify the cardholder’s identity, the terminal will either
prompt the user to enter their PIN or request a signature.
Contactless EMV & Mobile EMV – In a contactless EMV or Mobile
EMV transaction, the EMV card or NFC-enabled smartphone is tapped
or waved against the POS terminal. The credentials are then confirmed
using the EMV security without the user having to wait with their card in the
terminal.
How do EMV cards increase security?
Once contact has been made with a point-of-sale terminal, the EMV
card and terminal prepare the transaction data, which includes a unique,
one-time authorization code for that specific transaction. This ensures
that if an EMV card is copied or compromised, the data cannot be used to
make multiple transactions, making it more secure than a magnetic stripe
card, which once compromised, can be used over and over for countless
fraudulent transactions.
