Everyone’s belongings have value, whether monetary or sentimental. Our movers take great care to ensure that
nothing is damaged in the course of a move, but unfortunately damage claims do happen from time to time. For
this reason it is important that we describe to you our coverage options to ensure that your belongings are
properly insured during your move.
The common assumption is that full coverage insurance is included when a moving company lists itself as a
licensed and insured carrier. However, the terms ‘licensed’ and ‘insured’ simply mean that the company has the
sufficient auto, general liability, and cargo coverage that the Department of Transportation requires. Most moving
companies offer a $0.60 per lb. waiver and release for their standard rates packages. It is important to know that
this type of coverage is not the same as full value replacement insurance. However, it is the most standard
coverage in the moving industry.
At New Latitude, we offer you two options for insuring your items:
A. Standard $0.60 per lb coverage - No charge
a. For example, a customer who owns an LED television that weighs 100 pounds would be
compensated $60.00 once a cargo claim is filed, if it has been damaged.
B. Actual Cash Value: You will be compensated for the actual cash value of your damaged item at the time
of the damage (see coverage levels and additional costs).
a. “Actual Cash Value Replacement” means that if any of your goods are lost or damaged while in
our custody, then at our option and up to the maximum amount of our liability, we will either 1)
repair the goods to the extent necessary to restore to the same condition as when they were
received by us, or pay for the cost of such repairs, or 2) substitute the goods of the kind and
quality, or pay for the cost of such substitution less depreciation.
b. LIMITATIONS: 1) Unless you specifically point them out and specify a value on the Shipping or
Storage Documents, we accept no liability for jewelry, silverware, firearms, fine arts, antiques,
collections, or other items of extraordinary value. 2) We never accept liability for money,
currency, valuable or negotiable instruments (stock certificates, bonds, etc.), manuscripts or
other valuable documents (unless the property described above includes Business Records). 3)
We only accept liability for the actual loss or damage, not for any consequences of the loss or
damage. 4) If you pack your own property, we can only accept liability for damage if there is
obvious damage to the container. If property packed by you is lost, we will only accept liability
based on the estimated weight of the container multiplied by: $5.00 per pound for Actual Cash
Depreciated Value. 5) If a mechanical or electrical device does not work after delivery, we will
only accept liability if there is obvious external damage to the device.
c. Actual Cash Value means the value of the property at the time it is lost or damaged. This means
the cost of a similar item of similar age and condition. A depreciation allowance will apply.
