About Us
Redfest Bristol
2nd August 2014
St George Park, Bristol
Background
Redfest Bristol is a free annual community arts festival taking place in Redfield, St George and
surrounding areas in August.
Redfest was founded in 2008 by a small group of volunteers looking to provide a showcase for
local artistic talent. Prior to 2011, Redfest was a small-scale affair, hosting music events in various
venues around Redfield and St George. In 2011, following feedback from the local community, we
expanded to include a day-long event in St George Park, which attracted over 1,000 people. In
2012, we estimated that ‘Redfest in the Park’ attracted around 3,000 people, the number of
attendees doubled in 2013. To get a flavour of Redfest, watch the short videos we made in 2012
and 2013 – they are on YouTube.com – search for “Redfest Bristol, St George Park, 2012” and
Redfest Bristol, St George Park, 2013”
We have a very clear vision for Redfest and our aims are as follows;
 Show off all that Church Road and the surrounding community has to offer and bring more
people to the area.
 Make the most of the spaces and facilities available to our community by increasing the
variety and frequency of artistic performances and events in those venues.
 Increase residents’ sense of pride in the area.
 Provide an opportunity for local artists to showcase their talents.
 Create a more active community by encouraging people who do not usually volunteer to
get involved in something that benefits their local community, providing volunteer
opportunities allowing people to gain experience and learn new skills.
Redfest is organised and run by a team of volunteers from the local community and the festival is
funded entirely by sponsorship, donations, grant funding and goodwill. Every penny we raise is
reinvested into the festival. Redfest has always been free to attend, and we will do everything we
can to keep it that way.
The Redfest 2013 Programme of Events
Our aim for 2013 was to make Redfest the biggest and best yet. The main event in St George Park
comprised a main stage playing host to local bands from a variety of genres, headlined by local
legends, Babyhead.
Kid’s entertainment has always been a massive part of Redfest and 2013 was no different, with A
Children’s Village, hosting a variety of performances and workshops. There were cardboard
creations, singing workshops, space for kids to roam around in, plus a selection of rides. The
market area was expanded in 2013 to include 50 market stalls. The wellbeing and therapy area
returned for the second year with even more practitioners and was a huge success. The expansion
continued with a brand new Market Stage for acoustic music, and events were rounded off in the
evening with the kids’ tent being transformed into an exciting cabaret for the first time.
As always, Redfest offered a range of further supporting events dotted around local pubs and
cafes in the few days running up to the main festival day. The web stats said it all: Hits more than
doubled from 139312 hits in August 2012 to a massive 332316 hits in August 2013!!
