Speedling (850) 872-4455 ext. 1110 FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH BAY COUNTY EMPLOYEE, NANCY TIPPS AWARDED UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA - COLLEGE OF PUBLIC HEALTH “2015 FLORIDA OUTSTANDING WOMAN IN PUBLIC HEALTH” Bay County, FL – The University of South Florida College of Public Health announced on March 16th that among an outstanding group of nominees; Nancy Tipps, Public Health Services Manager with Florida Department of Health in Bay County as recipient of the 2015 Florida Outstanding Woman in Public Health award. The awards assembly will take place during National Public Health Week in Tampa, Florida on April 8th. Ms. Tipps will be honored at this ceremony for her contributions and work in public health. The College of Public Health initiated the Outstanding Woman in Public Health Award in April 1988 to honor women in Florida who have made significant contributions to the field of public health. The recipient of the first award was Dr. Flora Mae Wellings, retired Director of the State Epidemiology Research Center. She served as Director for 18 years and was instrumental in finding solutions to many of Florida’s environmentally related public health problems. Ms. Tipps, this year’s award recipient, received her Bachelors of Science Nursing degree from University of West Florida and is currently enrolled in the Masters in Nursing Leadership program at UWF. Ms. Tipps has worked in the health services field for 25 years and public health for the past six years. Having made many contributions as a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor and Director of Nursing; as well as, Public Health Services Manager and Executive Staff member, with Florida Department of Health, her leadership and insight in making improvements in public health, increasing access to health care services, and community outreach efforts have been valuable to many within the community. With regard to his nomination of Nancy L. Tipps for the Annual Florida Outstanding Woman in Public Health 2015 Award, Douglas M. Kent, Administrator for the Florida Department of Health in Bay County, was very pleased Ms. Tipps was selected and stated, “I have had the pleasure to work with Ms. Tipps as our Public Health Services Manager, member of our executive staff and colleague for many years. She consistently exemplifies a professional and ethical character in her efforts and pursuit to improve public health.
