Position: (1) Public Safety Director
Summary: Under the Chief of Police the Ogema, the Director of Public Safety is responsible for the overall
management and operation of the Department of Public Safety.

A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field, and/or minimum of 10 years of law enforcement
experience with an MCOLES or Post certified department.
Possess a current MCOLES certification; or must be certifiable under the Michigan Commission of Law
Enforcement.
5 years of supervisory/managerial experience.
Non-restricted Michigan’s Operator’s License with the ability to be insured under the company’s policy.
Intermediate Computer skills with word processing and spreadsheets.
Indian Preference applies in accordance with Ordinance #15-600-02
Pay Grade: E7
Hiring Range: $65,691-82,114
Status: Exempt/Bi-weekly Pay
Conditions of employment with Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Government includes, passing a preemployment drug test, a physical in accordance with MCOLES certification guidelines, an extensive background
investigation, possession of a non-restricted Driver’s License throughout employment and being insurable
under the company’s auto policy, and successfully completing a one (1) year introductory period, during which
time the employee must:
1. Obtain BIA Special Law Enforcement Commission
2. Must attend the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP) and pass the Police Executives’ &
new Chiefs’ School.
