June 30 and/or Sat., Aug. 15 9:30 am ‐ 3:30 pm SU3 Painting with Soft Pastels All Levels Marvyn Rivett SW3 Abstract Impressions Lenore Walker Creating landscapes with paint may be intimidating but using chalk pastels can be a marvelous and forgiving medium by which to explore this subject matter. Learn about substrates, viewing landscapes in new ways, rendering interesting textural pastel applications and playing with colour. Please bring a few photographic references to inspire you. Tues. Aug. 18 & Tues. Aug. 25 6:30 pm ‐ 9:30 pm (each day) Using different brands of pastels and pastel papers, you will learn a variety of underpainting techniques to add depth and “pop” to paintings. Thursdays, June 11 - July 9 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Rothko, Newman, Frankenthaler and Still were amongst the foremost Abstract Expressionist painters of the 1940's‐50's. In this workshop we'll learn about each artist's work and have the chance to explore/adapt their methods to our own. An understanding of basic colour theory is beneficial. Tues. July 21 & Tues. This class starts right at the beginning and incrementally adds to your knowledge and experience through class projects that we all do together. Susan Wintrop All Levels In this “art camp”, every day will have a new and different painting project that is designed to break us out of painting ruts and introduce new techniques & possibilities. Monday to Friday, July 6 - 10 9:00 am – 12:00 pm All Levels The impressionist Renoir is quoted as saying “No shadow is black, it always has a colour.” This 1 ½ day workshop will include colour theory instruction, how to mix paint using a limited palette, simple exercises, and the chance to complete a small painted building on these colour principles from start to finish. July 12 1:00 – 4:00pm SW5 Mask Making Tamara Plugers All Levels Create a beautiful decorative mask using Paverpol, a unique fabric hardening medium with a certified Paverpol instructor.
