NICSC – COMMUNITY SERVICE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
The Northeast Indianapolis Community Service Corp (NICSC) provides the 46218 zip code residents a chance for
higher education by awarding a $500 scholarship to go toward college expenses. The scholarship is awarded to an
individual who has distinguished themselves within their community by being committed to community service
within the 46218 zip code.
This individual will have:


Respect for self, family, and community
Volunteered for community service or performed an action that positively impacted their community
Eligibility
In order to be considered for the NICSC – Community Service College Scholarship the following residency,
community service, and college requirements must be met:
 Residency Requirements
You must be a resident of the 46218 zip code. For purposes of the NICSC – Community Service College
Scholarship, you are considered a resident of the 46218 zip code if you are a United States citizen and one of the
following additional conditions apply:



Applicant is a current high school senior and has been a legal resident of the 46218 zip code for at least a
year
Applicant is a current high school senior graduating from a high school located in the 46218 zip code
Or, applicant is a college or trade school student who is a 46218 resident and moved out of the 46218 zip
code only for the specific purpose of going away to school
 Community Service Requirements
The applicant must have volunteered and performed community service within the 46218 zip code and are
currently positively impacting their community. This requirement is not limited to an established community
service program. However, the applicant must explain how the action or service positively impacted the
community.
 College or Trade School Requirements
The applicant must be either a current college or trade school student or a high school senior planning to attend
an accredited college or trade school in the United States full-time for the entire 2015-2016 academic year.
NOTE: If you already have a Bachelor's Degree, you are not eligible for this scholarship. If the NICSC – Community
Service College Scholarship winner does not enroll to attend a full-time program in an accredited college or trade
school in the United States for the 2015 Fall semester, the scholarship may be revoked.

Application Guidelines
Applicants must complete the NICSC – Community Service College Scholarship application (see last page) and
include the following additional document(s).
 Essay
 High school seniors – will write a one-page essay describing your high school achievements, the actions
you have performed to positively impact the 46218 zip code, and your future goals for college and the
46218 community. Please be sure to describe what you have done that sets you apart from everyone
else.
 College or Trade School students – will write a one-page essay describing your achievements, the actions
you have performed to positively impact the 46218 zip code, and your future goals for your career and
the 46218 community. Please be sure to describe what you have done that sets you apart from everyone
else.
 Resume
 College or Trade School students (only) – Your resume must include:
o Your estimated current semester GPA
o Your overall academic GPA
o Extra-curricular activities at school (student government, music, art, sports, clubs, etc.)
o Your community work or involvement in your church
o Volunteer or paid work experience
When to apply?






Applicants must apply for the 2015-2016 NICSC – Community Service College Scholarship by
July 15, 2015
The completed application, essay, and resume (if applicable) are all due by July 15, 2015
Applications will also be available online beginning May 22, 2015 at www.nicsc.org
The winner will be announced at the Back to School service at Mt Zion Apostolic Church. The winner or a
representative must be in attendance at the Mt Zion Apostolic Church – Back to School service on
August 9, 2015 to receive the scholarship.

or trade school the recipient will be attending
o The scholarship recipient must provide a valid Fall 2015 class schedule from the school they will
be attending in order for the scholarship to be released to their college or trade school
