Syllabus for M.Tech (Research) and MTech(sponsored) admission test
The Test Paper will have 3 parts. Part A is compulsory. The candidate can answer Part B or Part C
depending on the area of interest (Comm. Engineering / VLSI Design). Each part has 15 multiple
choice type questions. Each correct answer carries 1 mark and wrong answer carries – 0.25
marks.
Part A: Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential and Difference equations, Numerical methods,
Transforms, Linear circuits and networks, Electronic components and Devices, Analog Electronics,
Digital Electronics, Signals and Systems, Linear and Digital Control Theory.
Part B: Electromagnetic Waves, Probability and Random Processes, Communication Theory,
Communication Circuits, Transmission Lines, Wave Guides, Antennas, Microwave devices and
Circuits, Data Communications, Communication Networks, Satellite Communication, Optical
Communication, Signal Processing.
Part C: Linear and Digital IC’s, Digital System Design, VLSI Technology, CMOS VLSI, Mixed Signal
Design, HDL, Data converters, Microprocessors, Computer Architecture and organization, Logic
Synthesis, DSP Architectures, Embedded Systems.

Selection/Admission for the year 2015-16 : Intimation for interview.
With reference to the application for admission to Postgraduate Programmes (M.TechResearch) / (M.Tech - Sponsored), the shortlisted candidates are requested to appear for a written
test & an interview before the Selection Committee at his/her own cost. He/she should produce all
the original records such as Date of Birth Certificate, Degree Marks Cards (all the 4 yrs.), GATE Score
Card, Class 10th &12th Marks card SC/ST Certificate/ OBC Certificate (if applicable), PwD ( if
applicable), Conduct Certificate and Testimonials.

1. Sponsored candidates should have been serving in the sponsoring organisation for a period of
at least 2 years after qualifying degree and have to produce a letter from their employer stating
that the candidate is deputed for higher studies in M.Tech (Research) Course in the Institute on
full salary during the study period. The employer should indicate that the candidate will not be
withdrawn midway before the completion of the course. (Sponsorship letter should be in format
provided in the application form).
2. CANDIDATES WHO HAVE NOT SUBMITTED MARKS OF FINAL EXAMINATION ALONG WITH
APPLICATION FORM SHALL PRODUCE THE SAME AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION. HOWEVER
CANDIDATES WHO HAVE WRITTEN FINAL YEAR EXAMINATIONS AND ARE YET TO OBTAIN FINAL
SEMESTER MARK CARDS SHOULD SUBMIT THE SAME ON OR BEFORE 15.09.2015
3. Candidates who have qualified from the other Universities ( Other than NITK) have to produce
Migration certificate in order to validate their admission.
4. Candidates are required to make their own arrangements for stay.
5. The Selected candidates are required to pay fees and get admitted during 01.07.2015 to
09.07.2015 Fee details are on the reverse side.
