RCS offices boast AAA grade finishes
NMC was awarded the RCS fit-out project based on a client
recommendation from repeat client, JSE listed Acucap.
The RCS Group offers a range of financial services
products under its own name in association with a number
of retailers in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. The
tenant will operate its call centre from the new facility.
This award was based on the team’s high quality
workmanship displayed on the Golf Park office site
which led to the client, Acucap, recommending NMC
to their tenant, RCS.
“The R30 million RCS project was for the fit-out of an Agrade call centre to tenant specifications. No cent was
spared to create a vibrant and comfortable work
environment for the compliment of 230 call centre
operators. By applying our values to our projects we can
stay true to our vision, of providing a professional and
profitable service resulting in clients knocking on our
door, ” Stephen Stander, NMC Contracts Manager.
The R75 million project consisted of the construction
of a new office building and parking area, with
5 levels of lower basement parking, a ground floor
parking level and 3 levels of office space with high
quality finishes.
The building interiors were fitted with high-end AAA grade
finishes and retro interior design throughout. The meeting
rooms showcase state of the art electronic booking
systems and audio visual equipment.
The 11,254m² building was completed in
13 months, with the team working relentlessly to
deliver the finest quality product to the client.
The successful completion of RCS stands us in good stead
in view of the global growth trend in the call centre market,
which counts as one of the fastest growing sectors.

Since its inception in 2010, the challenges of geographic dispersion,
management restructuring and organic growth highlighted the need
for NMC Construction Namibia to re-energise team morale.
As a result, a team building session was arranged with the whole
team taking time out to focus on factors that could improve their
working environment moving forward.
With effect 6 March 2015, the NMC
Construction Group management
structure has been realigned, from a
geographical platform to a sector
discipline platform.
In effect this means that the exco
has become smaller and leadership
roles more clearly defined. Stephen
Chambers and George De Sousa
have been appointed as Chief
Operating Officers (COO) of their
respective platforms.
Bonke Simelane has been appointed
as Corporate Services Director and
takes responsibility for co-ordinating
and leading this side of the business,
as well as SMME development.
SMME development feeds into
supply chain management - a new
responsibility introduced into the
structure, which fits into the
Procurement platform. Supply Chain
Management has become a vital
element of our business.
“Further appointments include that
of Garth Robb as Managing Director
of NMC Namibia and Mogamat
Behardien, who has been appointed
as Director and tasked with leading
the greater Kwa-Zulu Natal
business.
I am excited by these changes and
promotions and look forward to
our improved performance.
I would personally like to
congratulate these individuals and
look forward to their inputs towards
taking the group to greater heights.”
Shaun Webber, NMC Construction
Group CEO
Topics addressed included; communication, trust, mutual respect
and discipline in the workplace. All of these topics are closely aligned
with the NMC Construction Group’s corporate values; trust,
discipline, people growth and pride. The implementation of these
values tie into the group’s vision and mission of building a leadership
team that builds the business.
“As a group we place great value on our people, we strive to create a
positive work environment bringing out the best in our employees.
One of the facilitators hit it spot on by pointing out that to have a
team building session does not mean that you are a bad team, but
simply means that you can be a better team.
The team enjoyed an interactive and fun-filled session, which has
already had a positive impact on team performance.” Garth Robb,
Managing Director NMC Construction Namibia.
In the words of Henry Ford, “Coming together is a beginning.
Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
An environmental success story
The Etosha Galton Gate project team
implemented a comprehensive
Environmental Management Plan
(EMP) with action plans aimed at
ensuring operations, both during
and post construction, were carried
out in the most environmentally
responsible manner.
The EMP refers to the management
of the interaction and impact of
human societies on the
environment.
Within the construction industry it
would serve to ensure that
construction operations cause
minimal disruptions to the natural
environment with a sustainable
impact on the communities in which
the contractor operates.
The EMP is a guideline as to how a
business can structure its operations
to meet its environmental, social and
economic goals.
A holistic EMP was of particular
significance on this project - in view
of the environmentally sensitive
surroundings. The EMP included; -
Site Camp
te
Construction Si
“The local work force was astounded
by the impact the EMP had on the
preservation of the environment and
value add to their quality of life. Our
entire team went to great lengths to
ensure that the human footprint of
the construction development was
minimised.
This phase of the project was a
100% team effort, and special
recognition should go to Fuzile
Ntsume, without whom the
successful completion of this project
would not have been possible. The
success of any project depends on
the team you work with." Johan
Bosch, NMC Environmental Officer.
For the team, the most important
lesson learnt was that construction
development IS possible without
harming the environment - even in
the most environmentally sensitive
area like the Etosha National Park.

The successful completion of the Kathu Waste Water Treatment
Works (KWWTW / Bufferdam) project in the Northern Cape, is
another big win for the NMC Construction Group. This project
further expands our civils infrastructure portfolio, showcasing our
capability to deliver municipal infrastructure.
The R9,6 million project was executed for a sewerage plant. The
scope of works for the Bufferdam upgrade comprised of, the
elevation of the dam wall by 2m and installation of a subsoil
system (550m) to keep the groundwater from reaching the
watertight membrane. The watertight membrane was installed
towards the end of the contract period. The 4,500m² dam has
the capacity to hold a total volume of 7 megalitres.
Civils
Coupled with the enlargement of the dam, the team further
constructed an inlet, outlet and spillway. The purpose of these
additional structures is to accompany the existing flow of water
together with the reserve of the water in the dam.
INJURIES
There were no pressure pipelines except for the subsoil drains,
preventing the groundwater from reaching the watertight
membrane.

Change: Daunting, but liberating
These are changes leaving you feeling
completely out of control and afraid of
what the future may hold, yet you are
forced to deal with them. According to
Lisa Steingold, transformational coach
and author, one of the best ways to
handle unexpected change is to simply
face it head on.
The main reason people resist
change is because they are
afraid of the unknown
She adds that one of the main reasons
people resist change is due to their fear
of the unknown. As human beings we
are creatures of habit, and naturally
gravitate towards the known even when
the unknown might lead to success.
You can choose to embrace change, by
making the best of the situation you are
presented with. You might be pleasantly
surprised, the unexpected change you
were dreading might be the best thing
that ever happened to you.
In the words of Alan Watts, “The only
way to make sense out of change is to
plunge into it, move with it, and join the
dance.”
As the saying goes, “Change is as good
as a holiday” and who doesn't enjoy a
holiday every now and then!

The outcome of change depends on: your reaction to change
how you deal with it
how you respond to it
It all comes down to you!
Port Elizabeth burst out of its seams with thousands of
athletes and spectators from across the country meeting up
for the 2015 Vodacom Corporate Tri-athlon Challenge.
The challenge issued by NMC North to enter the event was
readily accepted by the NMC Eastern Cape branch. After
months of training, planning and preparations the big day
took place on March, 28. The competitive spirit between the
five NMC teams entered was fierce with all team members
vying for the title of NMC Construction Group Tri-athlete
Champions.
The event comprised of a 380m swim, 18km cycling route and
4,2km run. Our brave athletes entered in teams of three.
“We would like thank the Northern Cape for the challenge and
great initiative which has paved the way for growing
relationships between the various regions. The support of the
Springbok cheerleading squad was phenomenal and the
behind the scenes efforts by the support teams, who put up
NMC branding in the early hours of the morning, is greatly
appreciated. A further thanks goes out to the East London
branch for their moral support on the day. Without any doubt,
we believe that this will be an event not easily forgotten.”
Erik Niewoudt, NMC Port Elizabeth Branch Manager.
The competitors, their supporters and families were instantly
recognised as proudly NMC in their branded gear, receiving
compliments throughout the day.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to; Zimkita Xawuka, Head
Office Tea Lady, who recently said goodbye to her baby girl
and Fadwa Simon, Head Office, Payroll Department with the
loss of her mother.
Well done to the participating teams:
