Acknowledgments
The Connect2Educate Notebook was first published in 2009 as a community resource guide for public
schools and their students. The need for such a guide was identified from post-Katrina community
conversations regarding our collective responsibility to help improve public schools. Those conversations
sparked a group of resolution-driven organizations coalescing around the community’s role in advancing
and enriching public schools. For four years, the Connect2Educate Collaborative produced the guide
and made it available for free to the New Orleans public school community. The founding members
of the C2E Collaborative included Greater New Orleans Afterschool Partnership (now known as the
Partnership for Youth Development), Communities In Schools of Greater New Orleans, Louisiana
Endowment for the Humanities, Save Our Schools – New Orleans, Start the Adventure in Reading
(STAIR), and over 100 community resource providers that have been featured in the publication. In
2012, the C2E Collaborative dissolved.
The C2E Notebook: A Guide to Community Resources for Families & Schools continues to be published
and made available to the community by the New Orleans Kids Partnership as a signature project of
the Family Engagement Working Group. The New Orleans Kids Partnership recognizes the following

Explanation
What is the C2E Notebook?
The Connect2Educate Notebook: A Guide to Community Resources for Families and Schools is
a comprehensive handbook of organizations, both education-related and community-based.
It provides an overview of programs and services throughout the Greater New Orleans area.
The C2E Notebook contains 96 organization profiles that include details about programs and
services offered to families and schools. Information in each profile is self-reported annually
by the individual organization.
The purpose of the C2E Notebook is to ensure that all students in New Orleans are wellserved and offered an enhanced, well-rounded educational experience that improves quality
of life for them, their families, and the community as a whole. It offers easy access to a
collection of resources throughout the city and the convenience of key information at your
fingertips. There’s information both schools and parents can find valuable.
For Schools:
• Have access to services that can be used to supplement and enrich curriculum
• Be aware of organizations that can serve your families outside of the school
environment
For Parents:
• Learn about programs and services offered in schools to determine the best fit
for your families’ needs
• Find programs and services offered in your neighborhood
Every effort has been made to ensure this information is complete and accurate. Profiles are
listed in alphabetical order according to the first letter word in the organization’s name. An
index can be found in the back.

Our initiatives work to increase the availability of high-quality child
care in 16 parishes in Southeast Louisiana, and provides quality
training and technical assistance to child care providers. The KIDS
COUNT data book informs decision-makers and the general public
about the well-being of Louisiana’s children by collecting and
analyzing data at the state and parish levels.
Child Care Resources & Referrals works to increase the availability
of high-quality child care in Southeast Louisiana by providing
parents with child care referrals and by providing training and onsite technical assistance to child care providers. Agenda also serves
as the coordinating partner for the New Orleans Early Education
Network – a collaboration between childcare centers, schools, Head
Start programs and nonprofits. KIDS COUNT is a data book on
Louisiana’s children produced by Agenda for Children that presents
a parish-by-parish profile of the indicators of child well being.

The mission of All Souls Community Center is to break the cycles of poverty and violence in the
Lower Ninth Ward community by helping children and youth reach age and grade-level proficiency
in reading and math, succeed in school, and become leaders and engaged citizens in their community.
All Souls further aims to create the community conditions necessary to raise healthy, successful
children through parent education, community-building, and strategic partnerships. All Souls sees
a future in which all children of the Lower Ninth Ward grow up healthy and prepared for school,
achieve success in school, graduate high school and college, and possess the character and life
skills necessary for long-term success. All Souls plans to make this vision a reality by creating a
comprehensive pipeline of services that, when fully developed, follow children of the Lower Ninth
Ward from birth to college, providing academic enrichment and remediation, high-quality musical
instruction, and character-building programs, as well as working with parents and families to enhance
family planning, pre-natal care, parent education, financial stability, and family and community health.
The All Souls Lower 9th Ward Scholar Success Program currently
offers after school tutoring and enrichment activities and music
enrichment. The after school tutoring and music enrichment
programs are offered from September until December and from

Artist Corps NOLA Fellows teach music in public schools, delivering
a comprehensive, age-appropriate curriculum. Students receive
rigorous instruction in music theory combined with hands-on
musical experiences that cultivate imagination, critical thinking,
discipline and teamwork. Culture bearers such as Mardi Gras Indians
and jazz musicians visit Fellows’ classes, and Artist Corps NOLA
secures funding to pay these artists in support of the local cultural
economy. The program model also incorporates time for professional

The Wetlands Education Program has the goal of engaging
students in hands-on restoration projects while providing them
with opportunities for applied and experiential science in the
field. The program includes lessons on basic botany, water quality
analysis, assessing habitat and environmental stewardship through
restoration. These students and the volunteer groups also get a basic
lesson on the causes of coastal land loss in Lousiana and the possible
solutions, and learn how they can take part in solutions.
Bayou Rebirth works with local and visiting volunteer groups to
restore wetlands by operating several nursery sites where we grow
out grasses and trees, facilitating grass and tree planting projects
with volunteer groups, and doing a wetlands education program
for school children where they learn about wetland ecosystems,
measuring water quality and habitat, and adopt plants for the
semester that they eventually plant in a marsh.

We are a community of concerned people committed to addressing
the system of generational poverty, violence and neglect in the New
Orleans area. Our innovative life skills and job training program
assists young people (ages 16-22) from severely at-risk communities
who desire to make a positive change in their lives. Reconcile’s
students arrive facing a vast array of challenges, from extreme
poverty and high school attrition to homelessness, violence, and
participation in the juvenile justice system. Nonetheless, these
young people possess a deep desire to break the cycle and become
productive.
The program utilizes the 21st Century Success Principles curriculum,
developed by the New Orleans Jobs Initiative over a ten-year period,
which addresses participants’ understanding of workplace culture
and is tailored for African-American youth with little connection to
the labor market. We also provide personalized and comprehensive
case management services to help students overcome obstacles such
as unstable housing and unreliable transportation. Outside referrals
enable students to address substance abuse issues, pursue domestic
violence counseling, and obtain legal assistance.

The Center for Restorative Approaches at Neighborhood Housing
Services helps people respond to destructive behavior in constructive
ways. Our training and processes build relationships and support
those most impacted by conflict and crime in finding ways to repair
harm. NHS revitalizes communities by increasing homeownership
and transforming vacant or substandard properties into homes. We
improve quality of life through community development, leadership,
education, outreach and collaboration.
NHS works to: build strong relationships between all members
of the school community; build capacity for conflict resolution &
accountability; model and teach processes for fun, honest, respectful
and responsible interactions & communication; reduce suspensions
& expulsions; replace punitive procedures with processes that focus
on reparation; provide opportunities for those impacted by harmful
behavior (victims) and those responsible for incidents to speak about
what has happened, how people have been affected, and how to
repair harm; Improve school cultures.
We facilitate Community Conferences, Problem-Solving Circles,
& Community Building Circles. During a Community Conference
everyone impacted by a crime or harmful behavior talks together
about what happened, how they were affected, and how to repair
the harm. It serves as an alternative to suspension or expulsion. We
also offer training and consulting on using restorative approaches
to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and accountability to
those harmed. For schools partnering to change school climate, we
offer training and coaching as well as direct services.

PROGRAM
OBJECTIVE:
MISSION:
Contact: To surround students with a community of support, empowering
them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through a fulltime
school-based coordinator, CIS provides or connects students and
their families to critical community resources tailored to individual
family needs. CIS has become the nation’s leading dropout
prevention organization and the only one proven to decrease
dropout rates and increase graduation rates.
CIS approches it work from the perspective of the individual
student. Through formal and informal assessments, we identify
the barriers to academic achievement which impact attendance,
behavior, course performance and, when appropriate, successful
preparation for college or career. Our goal is to augment the school’s
academic and non-academic programs with community and CISdelivered services so that students will promote on time, ultimately
graduating from high school on time and with an educational
achievement which positions the student to pursue college or career
choices.
Campus-based coordinators, working with school stakeholders,
assess the assets and needs at the school and design activities for
the majority of students which build assets of all students, and
intervention services for targeted students. These activities support
the positive behavior support initiatives of the school and align with
Response to Intervention strategies for the purpose of improving
academic outcomes. CIS uniquely offers a traditional in-school
mentoring program for middle and high school youth, pairing this
strategy with its wrap-around services for maximum impact.

Everything CWLA does is rooted in the belief that extended
learning opportunities like afterschool and summer programs are
most impactful when they look and feel different then the regular
school day. For example, our enrichment instructors help your
students master numeracy through dance and literacy through
writing film scripts. In our programs, the students are constantly
engaged in activities that reinforce what they learn during the school
day, yet they are having too much fun to even realize it.
Since February 2009, CWLA has offered comprehensive program
management and instructor placement for enrichment-integrated
extended learning programs throughout the Greater New Orleans
Area. CWLA has a network of over 200 passionate and motivated
instructors eager to share their talents and facilitate a unique
learning experience for Louisiana students. Our programs and
instructors offer students access to exciting classes like animation,
gardening, film, dance, guitar, and much more. Every class has an
underlying focus on Math and ELA skills to support our students’

when necessary, shutting down institutions that continue to
inhumanely treat children; to expand evidence-based alternatives
to incarceration and detention for youth; and to build the power of
those most impacted by the juvenile justice system.
JJPL litigates on behalf of youth both locally and statewide.
Additionally, we educate policy makers on the need for reform,
coordinate with parents, youth and other concerned citizens to
ensure their visibility and participation in the process, and actively
implement media strategies to hold the state accountable for the
treatment of its youth. By coordinating our diverse abilities in
strategic campaigns to engage policy makers and organize community
members and youth, JJPL continues to work on improving the lives
of Louisiana’s most vulnerable children.

PROGRAM
OBJECTIVE:
MISSION:
Contact: STAIR’s mission is: to increase the reading level of “skill deficient”
children who participate in the program;to increase each
participant’s sense of self-worth and esteem by providing a program
which expands each child’s knowledge of self and the greater world
of reading; to provide a caring environment which will promote
a greater and more meaningful dialogue among multi-ethnic
volunteers, children, teachers and parents.
STAIR’s focus is on 1st-3rd grade students. Children are identified
by their teachers as candidates for the program. They simply need
some ongoing extra attention and encouragement in order to catch
up with their peers. The STAIR Program enters the child’s life
early, before the problem becomes acute, and provides one-on-one
tutoring over the course of a year using volunteer tutors to get the
children back on track, to help them succeed rather than fail, and to
nurture an enthusiasm for school.
Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) is a 28-year-old children’s
literacy program that provides free one-on-one after school tutoring
in reading to at-risk public elementary school students as well as
literacy support to family members. STAIR recruits, trains and
places community volunteers and college work study/service learning
students as tutors at its 29 tutoring sites in Orleans, Jefferson,

expectations that are mapped to higher education admission
requirements. These core programs form College Track’s foundation,
but, like anything else, it is the intangibles that make the real
difference. The staff and volunteers set high standards, encouraging
and supporting students when students feel daunted and providing
tough love when students are not performing to their potential.
Academic Affairs reinforces high standards and accountability that
enable our students to enter college and succeed in life. Student Life
provides students the opportunities, resources, and tools to explore
