Navigation Conditions
1. Lower Mississippi River (LMR) Navigation: Closed to Navigation as follows:
As of 0400 local time this morning the LMR is closed to all traffic from MM 12 AHP out to the SWP
Entrance Buoy (MM 22 BHOP).
The closure will remain in effect until the M/V HE HUA HAI clears the SWP Entrance Buoy.
As of 0745 local time: Due to Low Visibility in the vicinity Algiers Point MM94.5 AHP the
Mississippi River at Algiers Point is closed to all traffic.

performing frequent facility inspections, and reporting any hazardous conditions to VTS LMR on

Recommendations/Restrictions
1. Federal Pilots – SWP to Mile 233.5 AHOP
Restrictions In Place: None
2. BAR Pilots – SWP to Pilottown (Mile 1.9 AHOP)
Draft Recommendation – Unless restrictions are in place; Max FW Draft is 47'.
Restrictions in Place – As of 1030 Local 05 April 2015:
Due to heavy flocculation (slush) in SWP, the BAR Pilots have instituted the
following navigation restrictions:
1. Inbound vessels drafting 38 feet (11.5824 meters) or greater are NOT allowed to
cross-in only during the 7-hour period that begins 5
hours before low tide and continues to 2 hours after low tide.
2. There are no restrictions for Inbound vessels drafting below 38'; or for any outbound vessels.
3. Crescent Pilots – Pilottown (Mile 1.9 AHOP) to Mile 104.7 AHOP
Draft Recommendation – Unless restrictions are in place; Max FW Draft is 47'.
Restrictions in Place – None.
4. NOBRA Pilots – Mile 104.7 AHOP to Mile 233.5 AHOP
Draft Recommendation - Unless restrictions are in place:
Mile 104.7 to Mile 180 AHOP: Max FW Draft is 47'.
Mile 180.0 to Mile 232.1 AHOP: Max FW Draft is 45'.
Mooring Rules
1. When the river reaches seven (7) feet at the Carrollton Gage, all head-down
landings will be conducted during daylight hours only.
2. NOBRA will not conduct any head-down landings after the river reaches twelve
(12) feet at the Carrollton gage.
Restrictions in Place – As of 19 March 2015
Due to the rising river, NOBRA has implemented the following restrictions.
1. Mooring and unmooring operations at all mid-stream transfer facilities shall
be restricted to daylight hours.
2. Vessel shall be separated by a distance of at least 0.2 nautical miles (1200
feet) when anchoring in prescribed anchorages,
with the exception of Kenner Bend, Bonnet Carre’ and upper Grandview,
where normal anchoring of vessels less than 30 ft.

3. Vessels with drafts greater than 40 feet transiting about Bayou Lafourche
Water Intake, Mile 175.4, shall be restricted to
daylight only.
These restrictions will remain in place until the LMR hits the Carrollton Gage at 12’
and falling.
As of March 27, 2015 - NOBRA Pilots are requesting agents provide the air draft of all
vessels when ordering a NOBRA Pilot.

Note 1: The HPL Bridge Air Gap measurement has been adjusted to reflect a height of 152.30’.

The calculation to determine the current air gap is “152.30 less the Carrollton Gage”.
This measurement reflects the USCG’s official publicized height for the low-steel
measurement in the main navigation channel.

The NOBRA Pilots are using the high-steel measurement of 153.00’ for the air gap of the
main navigation channel.
Note 2:
Due to construction on the Sunshine Bridge the air draft on that bridge by 5 feet.
Normal Maximum Vertical Clearance is 171’. It is now 166’.
Therefore, the Sunshine Bridge air draft is computed as: 166’ less the Donaldsonville
gage. Low Steel is 163’ less the Donaldsonville gage.

The LMR at New Orleans is predicted to remain steady between 12.2’ and 12.4' over the next ten
days.
