Winston played basketball at South High where he won a Central Section title, was the All-Area Player of The Year, and an All Northern California first team selection. He attended Texas A&M University on a basketball scholarship and earned All SWC honors all four years; winning two championships and the SWC Tournament MVP his senior year. Selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 56th pick in the 1987 draft, he played two years in the league before leaving for Europe (Italy, Spain, and France). He continued to make all-star teams, win Championships, and earn MVP’s for nine more years before retiring in 1998.
