CONCERTS­
ALL ARE WELCOME!
An Evening of Accordion and Violin
Friday, May 8 at 7:00 PM
Join accordion extraordinaire Aleksandr Vasin and violin virtuoso
David Podles for an evening of classical and folk pieces. Travel with
them through exquisite classical epochs and lively folk pieces that
span gypsy and international genres.
A Glimpse into the Sublime
Friday, May 29 at 7:00 PM
In this piano recital, Misuzu Tanaka will present an all-Beethoven
program consisting of works from the composer’s early, middle, and
late creative periods. The two jewels of the Sonata repertoire, G
Major Op.14, No.2 and E major Op.109, form the centerpiece of
this concert. Two smaller scale works, Polonaise in C Major and the
fiery and whimsical Rondo a capriccio “Rage over a Lost Penny,”
will test and showcase the elegant and virtuoso sides of the soloist.
“Pop Songbook” with the East End Trio
Friday, June 12 at 7:00 PM
Join Mike, Clutch and Doug as they perform some of their favorite
songs by artists and composers that have both inspired and
influenced them. The show will feature a performance along with a
bit of musical trivia and nostalgia all performed within the East End
Trio’s unique blend of originality, style and grace.
Noah’s ARC
Friday, June 26 at 7:00 PM
Noah’s ARC returns to Wading River with Roots Reggae! Enjoy
music inspired by Jamaica’s “Studio One” musicians of the 1960’s
and 70’s. In addition to Reggae, the band ventures into Ska,
Rocksteady and Dub styles. The grooves will be plentiful, so bring
your dancing shoes and positive vibes to what promises to be a
wonderful night of island music! For friends and families of all ages.
EXHIBITIONS
MAY _________________________________
Paintings by Judith Schreiber
Ms. Schreiber’s paintings chronicle the times we live in, reflecting
the primitive style and rich color used by the Post Impressionist
painter Paul Gauguin, as well as the themes of social justice and
political justice exemplified by the Mexican muralists Diego Rivera
and José Clemente Orozco. Most recently, her painting of Nobel
Prize winner, Malala, was honored. Ms. Schreiber’s paintings are
exhibited widely at colleges, galleries and art shows.

Portraits in Pastel
by Terence McManus
Mr. McManus, a self taught artist, developed a passion for art at
a young age. This exhibit concentrates on portraits of people and
animals, in which he tried to capture the subtle differences and
personalities of each individual. His favorite medium is pastel, which
presents freshness and bright colors in the paintings.

Learn To Be...Tobacco Free
6 Mondays, June 1 – July 6 &
Reunion on July 27, 6:00 – 7:15 PM
Registration begins May 1 for all Suffolk
County residents. The Suffolk County Dept. of
Health Services will sponsor this 6-week smoking
cessation program with a reunion on Monday, July
27. Medically eligible participants who are taking
the class for the first time will receive prescription
medication and nicotine replacement products
under the supervision of a clinical nurse practitioner
for $50. A Physician’s Medical Form (the ONLY
acceptable form of medical clearance) and an
invoice for the fee will be provided at the first class.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, The Cloisters & Arthur Avenue
Saturday, June 13

the library at 8:00 AM sharp, please arrive no later than 7:45 AM. The bus will depart Arthur Avenue at
4:30 PM. Look for fliers inside the library for details of this trip.
Join North Shore Public Library outside of the physical walls of the library. The Cathedral of St.
John the Divine is the largest in the world. In a private group tour, experience the beautiful
stained glass windows, the Great Bronze Doors, the seven Chapels of the Tongues, and the history
of this breathtaking cathedral. Next, immerse yourself in a private group tour of The Cloisters
Museum and gardens. This branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art is devoted to the art and
architecture of medieval Europe, and was assembled from architectural elements, both domestic
and religious, that largely date from the twelfth through the fifteenth century. After these tours,
step back into Little Italy on Arthur Avenue for an early dinner on your own and some shopping.
LOOKING AHEAD...
The Craft of Acting
5 Thursdays, July 2 – 30 & Performance: Saturday, August 1, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Registration begins on June 1 for NSPL cardholders and on June 5 for non-residents.
This Adult Acting Workshop will focus on exploring the craft of acting with exercises, improvisation
and games, as well as developing a character and working on a rehearsed scene to end in a final
shared presentation on Saturday August 1 at 2:00 PM. Participants will rehearse, both in and
out of class, and memorize a 3-5 minute scene. Scenes will be assigned at the first class. Acting
techniques from American Method, Meisner, and more will be employed in a fun way to learn
about the art and also show a scene. Open to those with no experience to those with more
experience, all that is required is willingness and the commitment to participate, rehearse, and
play the scene and explore the craft of acting in a fun and nurturing space. Join acting coach and
actress Jen Danby.

and relaxing chair yoga and stretching
program. No skill is needed.
