PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

As I am writing this newsletter and looking out the window, it is still snowing, what’s new! If it is not snowing,
the temperature is below zero, or both. The maintenance
crew has been working diligently since before Christmas
to keep our roads safe and fit. Since January 1, 2015, the
maintenance crew has had 27 weather events. We used
seven tandems of anti-skid (154 tons of anti-skid and 66
tons of salt), to say the least, it was a tough winter and
first day of spring. In between snowstorms, the maintenance crew has reconstructed the community center
meeting room. More to come on that subject, later in the
newsletter.
Roads: Now that the assessment has passed, we can
move forward on planning the road repair/resurfacing.
The $163,000 for this will come from the $65,000 assessment, $58,000 capital reserve and $40,000 of this
year’s budget. We are going to send the request for bids
out in the coming weeks. I hope the road project will
continue on for many years to come.
Potholes are a major problem, not only in Lake Hauto,
but everywhere. This was a very hard winter, one of the
hardest in decades. We are not isolated from this, we
have been temporarily filling the potholes on Lake Drive
and are planning to get cold patch to fix the potholes. My
hope was to start the potholes in mid-March with the
cold patch, but with the weather and storms, this just did
not happen. The maintenance crew is doing their best
with the conditions mother nature provides them.
We’ve been pursuing Nesquehoning to replace a portion
of Tippets Road they own. In the meantime, the road is
starting to get impassable. I would hope they are going to
patch it this year. When Nesquehoning provides us with
their intentions, we will be sure to inform you.
Parking: Do not park on the roads or the cul-de-sacs of
Lake Hauto. Lake Drive is only 19 feet wide and the culde-sacs are only 12 feet wide. Some driveways are wider
than that, so when you park on the roads, we give very
little space for cars to get by in the summer and when we
are plowing in the winter. Please park on your property
for the safety of all.
“O” Beach: Construction was put on hold until after
winter. The first thing we are going to do this year is investigate a seawall down at the edge of the water. This

will do two things: (1) Stop the sand from going into the
lake and (2) Raise the beach about 2 feet higher. The beach
area now is at water level and causing some swampy areas.
Eastwood Beach: This spring we are going to put ground
cover plants on the bank from the back of the beach house
up to the tennis courts. A new $11,000 piece of playground
equipment will be installed this year. We will be removing
the older sliding board and merry-go-round for safety reasons.
Crescent Beach: We will be putting a fishing dock on the
east-end of the beach area. The dock is finished and ready
to go as soon as the weather breaks and the other docks go
in.
Oakwood Beach: A new toddler swing is being installed
and we are taking down the sliding board that is no longer
safe for children to use.
All beaches will be getting a fresh coat of sand. We are
going to have the option to reserve picnic tables at the
beaches this year. Please call the club office to learn how
you can reserve your table this summer.
Dam Maintenance: It has been completed and will be inspected this year. We have taken out all the loose rocks on
the face of the dam and put them back by floating them in
concrete. We also grounded out the cracks on the spillway
and put in a special caulking. All the maintenance that was
completed is functioning as designed. All that work was
done by our maintenance crew. Some days it was so cold
that when the water came out of the hose, it froze. This
was a tough job due to the weather and standing on an angle on the face of the dam, but we had to do it. For rentals
of the special equipment and for materials the cost was
about $25,818. It was estimated if we had to hire outside
contractors, the cost would be in the area of $100,000.
Security: Our 2015 budget for security is the same as last
year. There’s a new camera on Crescent that will pan the
beach area. Our community has security that some large
municipalities wish they had.
Gates: The gates are working fine. The maintenance crew
has been opening the gates on stormy days to protect them
from someone sliding into them. If at times the gates are
not working, please call the office at (570) 645-7100 during office hours or 570-751-6512 after hours to report the
problem and maintenance will attend to the problem.
Recreation: We have planned for 2015, an Easter egg
hunt, a Halloween party, a Christmas party and a fishing
derby at Birch Pools. This year we will have bands at the
beaches, two fireworks displays and a clambake. Ninety

The small amount not donated is paid from the budget.
I would like to thank the people that financially support
these great summer events.
Legal: We have two lawsuits in process: (1) The Griffith’s drain is on Lake Hauto club property and she
want us to pay for it and (2) An accident occurred at
Lake Drive and Rt. 54. Our insurance company is handling that. I don’t want to go into these in more detail
because one is in court and the other lawsuit will be in
court.
Member Picnic: Our picnic this year will be August 1,
2015. James Demetriades, Jr. is the chairperson for the
picnic this year, as he was last year. He is looking for
volunteers to help. If you would like to help, call the
office at (570) 645-7100 and express your interest. This
picnic requires a committee of 10 to make it successful,
so please call and help James.
Community Center: We have taken out the louver
windows in the coffee shop and the library, this saved
us a lot of heat this winter, due to the fact that they actually never closed. The meeting room was renovated
by removing the chandeliers and fluorescent lights.
New in-ceiling lighting, including recessed lighting,
was added. We installed plasterboard over all the paneling and painted. We installed new energy-efficient
low E glass windows. The floor was leveled before we
installed new carpet. Tile was installed at the entrance
door to extend the wear of the carpet. We also replaced
the front double doors and accented the entrance with
stone.
We hope to start phase 2, which is the coffee shop and
library—new energy-efficient low E glass windows
and doors in the library and the coffee shop. This will
give the front of the building a whole new look. Also,
completely refurbish the restrooms with all new fixtures, new floor, lights, paint, making the doors wider
and paint the entire coffee shop.
Lily pads will be harvested this year. We were hoping
to rent a machine, but the machine is too large for the
Lake and very expensive to rent. We are investigating
different options and will be making a decision at the
April or May workshop, which in turn will be brought
up at the regular meeting. At the next workshop meeting, a consultant will provide us with options that make
sense for Lake Hauto.
Rush Township has plans to install guardrails from the
main entrance down to our property line. They also
gave us approximately 44 tons of salt to do Lake Drive
from our property line to Route 54.
Leaf dump has been pushed back and will be open by
code as every year. This seemed to be working fine. No
plastic bags, lumber, building material, stumps or large

rocks. This is for leaves only.
Reserves: For the past year, we were able to put money in
reserves. We put approximately $58,000 into reserves that
were intended to use for new roads.
As you must realize, with the major projects like—lily pads,
gates, roads, leaf dump, community center, recreation, security, dam, beaches, restrooms, comes a great deal of everyday
maintenance. The Club employs two full-time employees in
the winter and adds four part-time in the summer. They get a
tremendous amount of work done to ensure our community
remains one we are proud of.
As of finishing this newsletter, the sun is out and it’s 50°, so I
have to say Spring is here. Have a great spring and summer
and remember when you play, play safe.
Fishing

The fishing last year was the best that I have experienced
since the “big draw down”. The fish population has recovered well. We are planning to continue stocking the lake
with yellow perch, crappies, blue gills and largemouth
bass. We will also be stocking shiners for feeder fish.
These fish will be stocked as soon as possible after “ice
out”. The colder the water, there is less of a chance of
hurting the fish.
Trout season this year is April 4th for the southern tier and
April 18th for the northern tier. Start time is 8:00 AM. We
have decided to stock between 300 – 400 trout for April
18th at Birch Pools. The pond will be closed the week prior
to April 18th and off limits to fishermen until the morning
of the 18th.
The Children’s Fishing Derby will once again be held at
Birch Pools on Saturday May 16th from 9:00 AM till noon.
The registration fee for the derby will $2.00 per child.
Registration will be at the club office. We will stock trout
with tags and have prizes, snacks and refreshments for the
children. The pond will be closed starting on May 11th,
which be posted, to allow stocking of trout for the derby.
Although the “formal derby” will end at noon, the pond
will remain closed to adults, fishing for children only until
Monday May 25th. Any child registered for the derby will
be able to bring the tag from any trout caught to the office
and receive a prize for the entire week.
We want to thank all the sponsors of last year’s derby.
Your generosity has allowed us to stock more fish and purchase great prizes for the children. Anyone wishing to
make a donation for the derby can do so at the club office.
A $25.00 donation covers the cost of a trout with a tag and
a prize. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank
you once again for making this community event a success.

The palomino was caught the first weekend of December by member
Lou Cichon and it measured 22 inches. Other trout were caught and released. Being in the pond for that long and feeding off of natural food,
really made the colors brilliant. Especially the red stripe and fins.

This is a rough sketch of the lake indicating the direction in which all motorized boats must travel. Motorized boats
must travel in a counter clockwise direction around the designated ski area. Water skiing and tubing is only permitted in
the center designated ski area. Motorized boats not skiing are not permitted in the ski area unless they are pulling a skier
or someone in the tube. The “No Wake” area means exactly that, your boat should be going slow enough to not produce
a wake. Following these boating rules will only help to make our lake a safer place.
BOAT STICKERS
BOAT RESTRICTIONS
All 2015 stickers MUST be
placed on both sides of the boat in full view without having to move any personal equipment (such as covers).
Security will assume that the boat does not have a sticker
and the board will possibly fine the member for not displaying the sticker within full view.
There are 2 different types of stickers this year.
Rectangular stickers are for the boats
over 10 horsepower. The Registration number will be written on the
sticker and must match the registration number on the boat. The cost of
this registration is $36.00.
The triangular sticker is for the boat
under 10 horsepower, including no
engine. The cost of this registration is
$12.00.
REMINDER—
The 2015 Road Assessment bills were
mailed. The fee is $100.00 per lot. The
payment is due by April 15, 2015.
Starting April 16, 2015 there will be an
additional $25.00 late fee per lot that will be added
to the initial bill.

The length of all Inboard/Outboard
(I/O) watercraft only must be 20 foot
or under with no greater than a 4.3 Liter engine.
The outboard watercraft must be 20 feet or less and
have an engine of 200 horsepower or less.
Personal watercraft engines are limited to 135 horsepower or less.
Pontoon boats will be 20 feet or less and are limited
to an engine of 150 horsepower or less. Pontoon
boats are measured by deck size.
Power watercraft registered and operated on Lake
Hauto prior to 1975 are excluded. This exclusion
applies to the original boat and motor and not to any
replacement, revision or modification.
Boat and RV registration Reminder:
Only the member that is listed on the membership (and the
deed) is permitted to register any recreational equipment.
The member must be in good standing before they can register any equipment. The recreational equipment including
equipment such as inboard and outboard boats, personal
watercrafts, four wheelers, golf carts and so forth. The
insurance statement must be in the same name as the owner of the equipment and has to be the member only.

in Redner’s Save-A-Tape and Boyers’
rebate programs.
Take your eligible Save-A-Tapes from Redner’s
down to the office and drop them into the outside letter drop or take them inside the office during regular
office hours and give them to Kim. At Redner's you
must remember to have the cashier swipe your key
tag in order for your Save-A-Tape to be eligible.. At
Boyer’s, all you need to do is swipe your Boyer’s tag
(there is no need for a receipt to be submitted to Lake
Hauto Club for a rebate). If you need a Boyer’s tag,
call the office. Kim will be happy to get a tag to you.

any cashier for one before he/she begins to register

Lake Hauto Picnic Table Reservations
A member can still reserve a picnic table at any recreational area AFTER 7:00 AM
by identifying their table(s) with a tablecloth or other identifying item, such as a small
knickknack.
Optional Reserving Tables in Advance
$25.00 - per table(s) under a pavilion. They will be marked
$10.00 - per table(s) on any recreational grounds.
You may choose your table(s) in advance and know they will be available for the date you need.
Payment must be made when you submit your reservation.
We have table layouts for each recreational area. You can choose a numbered table(s) in any location. Your reserved table(s) will be marked prior to the traditional 7:00 AM reservations.
ONLY two (2) tables may be reserved by a lot owner for a specific date.
You can ONLY reserve tables two (2) times a season.
The season runs from April 1 to the day after Labor Day.
Reminder: As members:
25 visitor tags per lot for those over age 14.
$2.00 per each additional tag beyond 25.
24 hour cancellation notice is necessary for a full refund. Reservation start at 7:00 AM, so you need to cancel at
least 48 hours prior to that day.
SECURITY

Lake Hauto will be employing the services of a security company throughout the summer season. Their efforts will be
concentrated on enforcing the rules and regulations of the Lake Hauto Club. The security company will be responsible
for patrolling our four beaches, parking lots, picnic and recreation areas, pavilions, greenbelts, docks and gates.
Any vandalism or suspicious/criminal activity on personal property should be reported immediately to the local police
department by the residents.
In cases of vandalism or suspicious/criminal activity residents should dial 911 or contact the Rush Township Police
Department (Schuylkill County) at 570-668-4242 or the Nesquehoning Police Department (Carbon County) at 570669-9111.
Lastly, the Lake Hauto Board of Directors would like to remind all that current recreational tags must be displayed by
Club Members and their immediate families and guests while using the Club’s recreation areas and other facilities.

SUMMER ENTERTAINMENT UPDATE
Dear Members,
As you see, we have started to book entertainment for this summer. We have booked 2 fireworks shows and a few
bands. However, your generosity is necessary to make this happen. We need your donations as soon as possible in order to know the budget that we have to work with and how many bands we can afford.
We are looking for sponsorships once again from the community as well as our local businesses. This year we would
like to once again recognize the generous individuals and businesses throughout the entire summer. Rather than sponsoring a single band or event, you will be helping to sponsor the entire summer of events.
We fully intend on recognizing these generous members with a large sponsorship banner recognizing them, as well as
verbal recognition at each of our entertainment events. We feel that this is an attractive advertising opportunity for members’ businesses as well as an opportunity for the community to say "thank you" to generous donors and helpful members.
These donations will be used exclusively for the bands, fireworks, and all summer entertainment activities. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. If you wish for your donation to be ONLY for one activity (Fireworks or Bands),
please indicate on your donation.

The South Shore Much Area is for compost material only.
That includes leaves, tree limbs, and grass clippings. NOT
PERMITTED: tires, concrete, stumps, railroad ties garbage or
tree trunks.
The dumpsters at the beaches are not for the disposing of your
household garbage. Violators will be fined.
DO NOT deposit your grass clippings and/or leaves in the
greenbelt areas or the lake itself.
Use fertilizers and pesticides sparingly - if at all - and follow
package directions carefully when determining how much of a
product to use.
Landscape using native plants. Natives require less fertilizer
and fewer pesticides to look their best.

1. Real Estate:
a. Any sign designating or advertising the
sale of a property or premises shall not
exceed a maximum size of 18 x 24 inches (432 sq. in.).
b. Only one sign is permissible per property for sale.
c. Posting of "FOR LEASE" or "FOR RENT" signs is
prohibited.
2. Directional Signs:
Club members who post directional signs on
club property are to have these removed following their use.
3. The posting of signs or the attachment of any objects
to, as well as entry upon, the “Teepees or Rocks” at the
entrance to Lake Hauto is not permitted

SECURITY NOTES
The security team that we have hired will be checking for the following:
1. Recreation tags need to be worn whenever members are using any Recreation Areas. There are many new members and this makes it easier on everyone to know that you are a member. No one is exempt from this rule no matter
how long you have lived here.
2. Boat Stickers need to be on both sides of the boat towards the rear of the boat. Security will be inspecting all boats.
Boats may not be launched without the stickers.
3. Recreational Vehicles must be registered with the club and the stickers must be visible. Drivers must possess a
valid drivers license.
4. Speed Limits will be checked periodically. The speed limit on Lake Drive is 25 miles per hour and on the side
streets, it is 15 miles per hour.
Please read the Lake Hauto Club Rules and Regulations for a complete list of rules and
thank you for your cooperation.
