The NSAA will provide a supportive environment.

LANGUAGE LEARNING RESOURCE COMMITTEE SLP MEMBER
Primary Objectives of the Committee
 expand Expressive Cafes to different areas of the
province
 create a plan for services in the community for people
living with aphasia
 have regular group activities for people with aphasia
 co-ordinate events with Communication Committee
Requirements
 meets provincial requirements to practice as an SLP
in Nova Scotia
 interest in supporting individuals with aphasia
 ability to commit to participate in committee
meetings and activities
 reliability
Responsibilities
 actively participate in committee meetings
 participate in pursuing the objectives of the
committee
 individual responsibilities to be determined after
discussion with Chair
Training
 orientation and training will be provided for
volunteers
 need for specific training will be identified in
collaboration with the Committee Chair and
Volunteer Coordinator
Time Commitment
 monthly committee meeting (2 hours)

HALIFAX EXPRESSIVE CAFÉ VOLUNTEER FACILITATOR
Description
 the Expressive Cafe is a subcommittee of the LLRC

Requirements
 interest in supporting individuals with aphasia
 ability to commit to participate
 reliability
Responsibilities
 using facilitative communication techniques,
facilitators support members of the Expressive Café
during conversation and activities
Training
 orientation and training will be provided for
volunteers
 need for specific training will be identified in
collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator
Time Commitment
 the Halifax EC is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each
month from 7:00 – 9:00 pm
FINANCIAL COMMITTEE MEMBER
Primary Objectives of the Committee
 support the Bord of Directors on financial matters
 work with committees with submission of funding
requests
 work with chartered accountant with filing of taxes
Responsibilities
 actively participate in committee meetings
 participate in pursuing the objectives of the
committee
 individual responsibilities to be determined after
discussion with Chair
Time Commitment:
 monthly committee meeting (2 hours)
involvement in committee projects as needed
Requirements
 interest in supporting individuals with aphasia
 ability to commit to participate in committee

 reliability
 previous experience and/or education in financial
management would be considered an asset (e.g.,
business, finance, accounting)

CORPORATE SPONSOR & GRANT COMMITTEE MEMBER
Primary Objectives of the Committee
 investigate funding and sponsorship resources
 pursue corporate funding and grants
Responsibilities
 actively participate in committee meetings
 participate in pursuing the objectives of the
committee
 individual responsibilities to be determined after
discussion with Chair
Time Commitment:
 monthly committee meeting (2 hours)
 involvement in committee projects as needed
Requirements
 interest in supporting individuals with aphasia

 previous experience and/or education (e.g., grant
writing)would be considered an asset

COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE MEMBER
Primary Objectives of the Committee
 pursue fulfillment of Communication Strategy
 maintain website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts
 plan and implement advertising campaigns
 report on recovery research on website
 pursue education of the public and health care
professionals

 previous experience and/or education would be
considered an asset but is not mandatory
Responsibilities
 actively participate in committee meetings

 plan and carry out events such as:
 annual Aphasia Awareness Event
 annual Silent Auction
 Aphasia Awareness Month event (June)
 annual Music for Music Day (November)
 annual raffle (November/December)
 trivia events
 contribute to planning of summer aphasia camp
 solicit sponsorships and donations

professionals
 advocate for improved access to community-based
programs
 pursue formal partnerships with relevant associations
and agencies
 partner with researchers to advance investigation
into intervention
