10:00 AM Breakout Sessions
Track 1: BEYOND COMPLIANCE: INTEGRATED CULTURE OF SAFETY & HEALTH
Andrew Stephenson, Vice President, North America, HBD International
Many companies talk about achieving a culture of health and safety, and yet in reality, very few actually have one. Strong
cultures foster strong core values and natural behaviors and they can’t be built with a set of rules or incentives.
This session looks at the relationship between employee health and safety, and the strategy of true integration of
programs to improve employee health, safety, and performance. Bridging the gap between science and application, the
session includes theory, as well as real world examples of successful implementation.
Track 2: ARE YOU A SITE CONTRACTOR, WELDER, TRUCKER OR CONSULTANT?
OR ARE YOU REALLY A MINING OPERATION?
Vic Goulet, Safety Director, Brox Industries, Safety & Health Council Instructor
This session will review MSHA’s reporting process, inspection requirements, and how you need to register equipment.
Mr. Goulet will also review MSHA’s rules to live by and areas you can improve safety at your quarry or construction site.
Track 3: SHOULD I HAVE A PRE-HIRE DRUG & ALCOHOL TESTING PROGRAM?
Laurie Glaude, PHR, CC,CEO, Aurora Business Solutions
Substance abuse in the workplace costs employers millions of dollars in lost productivity, increased health care costs,
and increased workers compensation claims. A well designed Drug & Alcohol program can mitigate employer risk. In this
session, attendees will learn how to assess organizations for risk, learn what questions should be examined
before starting a program and what employer obligations are when implementing a drug testing program.
Track 4: HELPING EMPLOYERS PREVENT & ADDRESS WORKPLACE VIOLENCE
Thomas Jones, Vice President, Employers Resource Group, A.I.M. Mutual, Sponsor
Workplace violence prevention is seldom the first initiative of employers working to meet deadlines, improve bottom lines
and manage an engaged employee base. However, considering the potential that these events may occur and the
resulting immense impact on the businesses, taking pro-active steps is an essential strategy to protect the workplace and
business continuity.
OSHA describes workplace violence as violence or the threat of violence against workers. It can occur at or outside the
workplace and can range from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and homicide, one of the leading causes of
job-related deaths.
While work related homicides grab the headlines, the majority of incidents that employees/managers usually deal with are
the more commonly reported acts of violence including assaults, bullying, domestic violence, stalking, cyber stalking,
threats, harassment (including sexual harassment), and physical and/or emotional abuse. (continued on next page..)
10:00 AM Breakout Sessions (Continued)
Track 4: HELPING EMPLOYERS PREVENT & ADDRESS WORKPLACE VIOLENCE (continued)
This session will cover topics such as:

Track 5: REPOSITIONING SOLUTIONS: IMPROVING PATIENT OUTCOMES WHILE REDUCING STAFF INJURIES
Matt Center, VP, Ergonomic Safety Solutions, Inc.
Repositioning of patients within the healthcare settings account for the majority of staff and patient injuries. This session will
address simple and cost effective solutions that help with improving patient outcomes and reducing musculoskeletal injuries to
staff. This hands on session will address a number of friction reducing methods and solutions that allow for more frequent and
effective repositioning, turning, and vertical lifting of patients.

Track 1: WELLNESS BEYOND THE FOUR WALLS: REACHING THE HARD TO REACH WORKFORCE
Stephanie Ceccherini, Director of Wellness Services, The Lawson Group
When it comes to employee wellness, one size definitely does not fit all. Companies come in all sizes, shapes and
configurations, and so should their wellness programs. Even without the added challenge of reaching a remote workforce,
it takes cre-ative thinking to design and deliver programs that are accessible, engaging and effective.
This session will go the extra step and provide participants with information on how to reach and engage employees who
are often traveling, working in different company locations, or working remotely. We will discuss a variety of innovative
methods to connect with employees that aren’t onsite daily. The key to success is keeping your employees engaged —
whenever, wherever.
Track 2: FALL PROTECTION—DON’T GET HUNG UP!
Brody Tuite, Loss Control Representative, Acadia Insurance, NH Conference Committee, Sponsor
Tom Stanton, Loss Control Representative, Acadia Insurance, Sponsor
This session will be an interactive review of OSHA’s fall protection standard. We will focus on the construction trade but will
review general industry requirements as well. In addition, show live demos and be very interactive. The demonstration will
review what fall protection looks like, what your options are for fall arrest systems, where is it needed and inspection
requirements.
Track 3: REASONABLE SUSPICION SUPERVISOR TRAINING—PART 1 (Certificate Program)
Corey Gately, MLADC, SAP, Horizons Counseling Center
Roy T. Roberts, Director of Occupational Health, LRGHealthcare
Informational session presenting real world applications and realizations of how front line supervisors can handle drug and
alcohol abuse in the workplace.
Supervisors will receive training on the proper process and documentation of handling employees who appear for work with signs
of impairment. The discussion includes applying your written policy and understanding the purpose and goals of a drug-free work
place. Supervisors will be reminded that a drug and alcohol policy is not only to make all employees safer, but additionally to
understand that the intent is to also help employees who may be dealing with chemical dependencies. Ultimately, the goal is to
help them to become a more productive employee.
Track 4: NONVIOLENT CRISIS INTERVENTION: SAFE MANAGEMENT OF DISRUPTIVE & ASSAULTIVE BEHAVIOR: PART 1
Sharon Drake, CPI Instructor, CEO, Serenity Place
By participating in this session, you will gain skills and confidence necessary to handle crisis situations with minimal anxiety and
maximum security. This session will help you intervene more safely when behavior becomes dangerous. And most importantly, it
won’t damage the professional bond you’ve worked so hard to establish with the individuals in your care.
The philosophy of this session is to provide the best Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security for the individuals in your charge, even in
violent moments. The program has been designed to provide the same Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security for you as you learn
the techniques and skills taught during this session. In this first session you will learn how to recognize a crisis situation as it is
developing (behaviors), how your responses have cause and effect, the importance of proxemics and kinesics, understanding that
we all have “baggage”, and having an understanding of fear and anxiety – the productive and unproductive sides.
1:00 PM Breakout Sessions (Continued)
Track 5: HOUSEKEEPING & ERGONOMICS
Allen M. Brown, Chief Ergonomist, MEMIC, Sponsor
In today's healthcare facilities, in and around medical providers and patients, are the people that keep the facility a
clean and safety environment -- housekeeping. Each day these employees are faced with manual material handling
challenges from cleaning floors to making beds. They are exposed to repetition, heavy force, and awkward postures.
During this session, you will learn the risks and exposures as they relate to the worker, the impact of gravity and how
that force can affect the strain to our bodies, and review best practice examples and the success had in reducing risks
to the employee.
2:00 PM - 2:30 PM - Vendor Networking
2:30 PM Breakout Sessions
Track 1: QUITTERS WIN & YOU CAN HELP
TJ Sweeney, Principal Coach & Consultant, Quitters Win
No other single substance or behavior comes close to matching the immeasurable toll of tobacco on individuals,
institutions, and indus-try. And while it’s often said that only the tobacco user can decide to change, there are practices,
policies, and pervasive attitudes that employers can implement and cultivate to set the stage for that change. The benefit to
the employer is substantial, and to the employ-ee it is quite literally life-changing.
Track 2: BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS
John Harvey, Safety Manager, Walsh Group
This session will review the OSHA standard 1910.1030 for bloodborne pathogens. In addition to reviewing what a
bloodborne pathogen is, where it can be found, what PPE is needed, and what are the cleaning and disposal procedures.
Track 3: REASONABLE SUSPICION SUPERVISOR TRAINING -PART 2 (Certificate Program)
Corey Gately, MLADC, SAP, Horizons Counseling Center
Roy T. Roberts, Director of Occupational Health, LRGHealthcare
The unique prospective of a very active drug & alcohol Counselor will give your supervisor the insight into the actual
medical & everyday habits of individuals dealing with chemical dependency challenges. Understanding the disease that
addiction is will help supervisors to be more capable in dealing with the challenge of an impaired employee.
Statistically, employees with chemical dependencies have more challenges in the work place from a higher propensity
for accidents, more absenteeism, & less productivity.
Track 4: NONVIOLENT CRISIS INTERVENTION: SAFE MANAGEMENT OF DISRUPTIVE & ASSAULTIVE BEHAVIOR: PART 2
Sharon Drak, CEO, CPI Instructor, Serenity Place
Mrs. Drake will take you further in this session by helping you to understand the verbal escalation continuum, rational
detachment, para-verbal communication, how to set limits, listening empathically, verbal tips and techniques (do’s and
don’ts), and time permitting, show you a couple of physical techniques to keep you safe if you find yourself in a physical
altercation.
Track 5: LIFE SAFETY IN HEALTHCARE & MEDICAL
John Lysy, CSP, CFPS, ARM, CTSP, OHST, Regional Loss Control Director, NH, Acadia Insurance, Sponsor
A look at National Fire Protection Association’s Life Safety Code® (a registered Trademark of NFPA) applicability to
healthcare and medical office facilities. A primer on code application, navigation, and resources for users, workers, and
facility managers. For manag-ers and executives, are different disaster scenarios being considered? Are evacuation drills
held only on fine weather days? Hurri-cane Sandy was one of eighteen named storms of the 2012 season. It devastated
New York and New Jersey, not just with wind dam-age, but also with flooded streets and tunnels, power loss and fires.
What if another different disaster event had followed? Should anyone be thinking about a typhoon and a nuclear disaster at
the same time? How often do one-hundred year floods occur? The northeast, as well as other parts of the country, are
regularly being beset by floods in recent years. What will happen if a flood occurs on the same day as act of terrorism, and
that leads to a mass shooting event? Events are happening for real, not just on TV. What is Life Safety when two or more
disasters occur at the same time and same place?

CURB PRESCRIPTION DRUG MISUSE AT WORK WITH 6 PROACTIVE STEPS
Prescription medications contribute to favorable treatment outcomes and quality of life when used correctly. However,
the abuse of opioid painkillers has become a disturbing trend and a threat to workplace safety. The prescription
painkiller epidemic poses a unique challenge for employers. These medications are powerful, highly addictive drugs
that have the potential to cause impairment and in-crease the risk of workplace incidents, errors and injury even when
taken as prescribed. Prescription painkillers also profoundly in-crease workers’ compensation costs, length of worker
disability and work time lost, according to the Workers Compensation Re-search Institute. Attend this Opening
Keynote session to learn more about 6 proactive steps your company can take to curb prescrip-tion drug misuse at
work!

10:00 AM Breakout Sessions
Track 1: MINDFULNESS AS A POSSIBILITY TO INCREASE EASE, FOCUS & EFFECTIVENESS
Margaret Fletcher, Health Outreach Coordinator, Concord Hospital Center for Health Promotion
You've heard a lot about mindfulness lately, but what is it, really? Mindfulness is about learning to attend to your life,
moment-by-moment, with ease and interest. You can learn to do this, and simultaneously discover the many ways being
mindful improves connection, clarity and confidence and reduces feelings of distractedness, stress, anxiety and difficulty.
Studies show that learning how to attend in this way brings profound benefits to cognitive processing, emotion regulation,
physical health, sense of well-being and interactions with others and the world. In this introductory session, we'll experience
mindfulness together, and look at some of the studies that show how paying attention in a very particular way improves
working memory, increases resiliency and has the power to effect workplace wellness and safety.
Purpose/Goal: Increase knowledge of mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques to enhance attentiveness and reduce
distress. Practice experientially and reflect together on mindfulness meditation and its effect on moment-by-moment wellbeing. Increase knowledge of research basis illustrating the benefits of mindfulness practice for practitioners and in
workplaces. Advise attendees of state-wide opportunities for further mindfulness study and practice.

Track 4: UNDERSTANDING ACTIVE SHOOTER WORKPLACE VIOLENCE
Terry L. Choate Jr., Lieutenant, Blue-U Corporate Resources
This session is a base level course designed for corporations, schools, universities and healthcare facilities and provides for
a foundation that is designed to take attendees to the next level in Active Shooter/Workplace Violence training, skills and
protection. The keys to sur-vival in a sudden and traumatic incident that may require a split second life-or-death decision are
a proper mindset based in preparation, managing fear, controlling your heart rate, and understanding exactly not only what
happens to you in such a situation, but as importantly, what happens to your adversary. With a high level of understanding
comes opportunity. You must understand your capabilities in ad-vance! This session will bring you this critical level of
understanding of these types of incidents and fill your toolbox with options and skills that will raise your level of performance
through tactics and fear management.
Ultimately the most successful way to stay safe is to avoid the confrontation or incident completely. Recognizing the signs of
a potentially dangerous person is one of the most critical tools that you can possess. Assessing a potential threat and
reacting appropriately to it is something that must be driven by your organizations policy. This session covers threat
assessments, recognizing signs of violence, ap-propriately dealing with a potential threat, forming threat assessment teams,
and more.

E & G Vending
Often times is easy to fall into the pattern of making a daily visit to your company vending machine only to find that the most
of the snacks are filled with sugar and/or salt. Limited access to healthy snacks can make it difficult to maintain energy
throughout the day and stay fo-cused on the job.
This session will demonstrate ways you can supply your employees with healthy snacks through a food vendor on a daily
basis. It will supply you with communication tools and outside the box ideas to become creative in onsite food vending for
your employee population.

importantly, the "Spirit of the Laws)" of you state.
This basic, foundational, session will provide you with what you need to know, and how you need to think before using any
force on another human being, as well as what you will need to be able to articulate should you ever find yourself in that
unfortunate position. The knowledge that you will gain from this seminar will form a foundation in making responsible,
ethical, well-thought, and safer Use of Force decisions - More Quickly!
Learn the Use of Force Scale and how it will apply should you ever use force on another. This is a crucial aspect of
personal defense.
Track 5: BECOMING A CONFIDENT CAREGIVER: PART 2
M. Heather McKay, MS, OT/L, Occupational Therapist & Dementia Care Specialist, Partnerships for Health
Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia are challenging conditions for both the person with the disease and their
caregivers. Even in early stages of the disease, communication between caregivers and the people they support is
difficult as the person’s brain changes in areas of memory, language comprehension, language production, and judgment
and impulse control. Broken communication affects all aspects of life including safety, and in the case of dementia, it’s
always changing. Heather McKay will present Becoming a Confident Caregiver: Part II, designed to help caregivers
understand why communication changes with dementia and new strategies to improve interactions when communication
is a challenge.
Objectives for the class include:
Learner will demonstrate seven key components in a positive physical approach when working with a person with
dementia

Track 4: PRACTICAL PERSONAL DEFENSE
Terry L Choate Jr., Lieutenant, Blue-U Corporate Resources
This classroom-based training course is designed to provide attendees with highly practical tools that they can
use to defend themselves should they find themselves a sudden victim, or potential victim of a crime. The
foundation of this course teaches the criticality of avoidance and escape and, most importantly, what it takes to
avoid being chosen as a victim. The primary goal of this course, like other Blue-U courses, is to bring an
unequaled level of understanding to a sudden, violent encounter, create a lifestyle that promotes awareness
and provides response options that require little or no thought or practice to effectively utilize.
The course material provides training that is as effective outside of the workplace as it is inside of the
workplace so your employees can bring this information home to their loved-ones and utilize it for their
benefit. Consider, if "people" are our most important assets, is their well-being any less important while they
are away from school/work than it is while they are at school/work?
Track 5: BECOMING A CONFIDENT CAREGIVER: PART 3
M. Heather McKay, MS, OT/L, Occupational Therapist & Dementia Care Specialist, Partnerships for Health
Many families are dealing with dementia for a decade or longer, and professionals are taking care of people at

This session will be fo-cused on the timeline of dementia. Caregivers will learn about the progression in 5
stages and strategies that work to sup-port people at every stage.
Objectives for the class include:
Learner will differentiate between 5 levels of ability and loss in people with dementia based on observable
behaviors, language, and actions
Learner will compare and select the appropriate type and amount of assistance to offer someone with dementia
based on client abilities and needs.
