Community Christian Academy Summer Camp Overview for 2015 Welcome! We are thrilled to have you and your family on-board for Community Christian Academy’s 2015 summer camp. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s development over the summer. In this day and age, it’s vital that we teach our children that the Bible is more than just a dusty book of stories. We need to show them God’s Word connects to every area of our lives and is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago, so they will know its amazing message of salvation is true! In fact, if you know of any neighbors or friends who would find the value in this type of Christ focused care, please let them know about us. With Camp Kilimanjaro Safari, our mission is to instill in your children an understanding of the one true God of the Bible they can carry with them for the rest of their lives and share with those around them. They will learn that true wisdom comes only from the one true all-wise God. He wants to share that wisdom and has given us a compass - the whole book of Proverbs - with wise sayings for us! They learn to have ears to hear, hearts to trust, tongues that are tamed, hands that work, and feet that walk with the wise. These themes will be taught as our weekly bible curriculum. The 2015 Summer Camp program is being planned and led by Activities Director, Carrie Powell. We have assembled the same staff as last summer so consistency will be maintained. Supplies needed for camp Bible Pencils Water Bottle Sunscreen Extra change of clothes Swimsuit Towel plastic bags for wet clothes. The school must have written permission from a doctor in order to assist your child with applying sunscreen. This permission form can be faxed to the school by your doctor. (CCA’s fax number is 360-412-0910). Lunch and Snacks The school provides a lunch each day at no additional cost. On field trip days, the school will provide a sack lunch. Please provide a healthy snack for your child each day for their morning and afternoon snack times (no candy or sodas, please) and a bottle for water. Summer Clothing Summer attire for children needs to be playwear and weather appropriate. Please keep in mind that clothes may be getting dirt, paint or grass stains because of the amount of play involved in a summer day camp. CCA asks that clothing be modest. Shirts need to cover the midriff area. Sleeveless shirts are OK. “Two finger” width tank tops are allowed, spaghetti straps are not. Writing on shirts must not be offensive or suggestive. Footwear needs to be sturdy and appropriate for the day’s activities such as sports that involve running, kicking or hiking. Flip-flop sandals are only appropriate for the pool. Also, one-piece swimsuits or “tankini’s” are allowed for the girls. No Bikinis, please. Swimming Big News! Tanglewilde Pool will be open again in 2015! For CCA summer camp, that means swim days of Tuesday and Thursday as in past summers, at approximately 1:00-2:30 with the goal to be back at school by 3:00 pm (lessons are optional and will be an additional cost). We ask that you provide your child with a set of “traveling” clothes to cover suits, for reasons of modesty. A cover-up is appropriate for girls. Boys can keep swimming trunks on and just put on a t-shirt along with the trunks. It is also important for the kids to have some sort of bag for transporting the clothes and towels. They are not allowed to change at the swimming facility except in the case of a parent picking them up directly at that facility for reasons of doctor appointments, etc. Field Trips Field trips will happen weekly on Wednesdays and we will schedule a few, additional, “smaller” getaways on specified Fridays. Please make sure that your child is properly prepared with extra water and appropriate snacks. CCA will provide a sack lunch and boxed drink. The Tacoma Rainiers field Trip will be on Monday, August 11th as their special camp days were not offered on Wednesday this year. The Rainiers ticket office now requires payment a full month in advance so I need to have a commitment for that date no later than July 10th. We will post a sign-up sheet on the information table in the time leading up to the event. Timberline Library We will be going to the Lacey Timberland Library once per month throughout the summer. Each student will need a library card. (We are unable to check out books for your child.) Please obtain a library card for your child by the second week of camp. Thank you so much parents! Mini “Activities” Camps We will be focusing on a sport/activity most weeks of the summer. We have volunteers who will help facilitate each sport “camp” and they look forward to providing a fun program that will help teach basic skills in each activity. There will be more activities planned throughout the summer including baking and cooking. We will send out reminders and weekly schedules to help you remember what to look forward to in the weeks ahead. A 3-month “landscape” calendar will be provided for each family, once all our dates are set, so that you can have a basic overview of what we will be doing each week. We are very excited to work with you and look forward to serving your family this summer.
