A word of explanation: the Session has been discussing ways in which we
can share accurate and helpful information about our church’s financial
status. This is our first attempt to share the information in a different way.
The first column shows that our income has exceeded our expenses for the
first quarter—which is always a good thing! But the second column shows
that we have not received as much money as we need if our budget and
expenses were divided by four. If that difference or shortfall is not addressed,
we could end the year in the red. So, while we are pleased to have a positive
cash flow for the first quarter, we continue to encourage our folks to be
generous and to keep your giving current.

From the Pastor
There are some events in life that
change everything. By now most of you
know that Pat and I are grandparents for
the first time. We welcomed our grandson into this world in February, and we
are discovering the joy of being grandparents.
Having a grandchild is one of those events that
can change everything—especially if you weren’t sure
you would ever have the opportunity to be a grandparent. We were ready to accept the fact that we would
have to spend all our money on ourselves. With a
grandchild, we have to re-think that!
This new addition to the family has influenced
our thinking about vacations, holidays, and a host of
other topics. Our grandson always brings a smile to our
faces, and pictures of him can already be found all over
our home. And, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, our smart phones have hundreds of pictures of
our grandson.
If you’ve been a grandparent for a long time, or
if you have many grandchildren, you might be smiling
at our excitement and joy. You’ve been there and done
that and got the T-shirt. And perhaps your excitement
and joy has abated with the passage of time.
That seems to be what happens with our faith in
Jesus. New believers are like kids in a candy store with
money to spend. Or like new grandparents! New Christians want to talk about their experience and faith. And
those of us who have known Jesus for a long time may
smile at their enthusiasm, thinking that it will soon
wear off and their lives will return to ―normal.‖
I know that happens. And that’s why one of the
best things that can happen to a church is when new
Christians come into our life. We need that enthusiasm
and excitement that has waned for many of us.
I hope you will join me in praying for God to
keep sending us new believers so that we might never
forget the joy and excitement that comes into a person’s life who opens his or heart to Jesus for the first
time.
Glad to be a follower of Jesus, and excited to be
a grandfather!
Pastor Bob
PS – Have I shown you the latest picture of my
grandson?

Our Trike-a-thon fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in April was an
exciting success! The children enjoyed this event in support of a wonderful cause, and our
school’s contribution is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the parents and families for
their support! A BIG shout out to the families of Courtney Scheer and Kylie Walton!
WOW!!!
Please join us for our final Panda Express Fundraiser of this school year on Thursday May 21st from 4pm8pm at Panda Express in Winter Garden. Clip the coupon below or find one in an upcoming Sunday bulletin.
Please bring it with you so our Preschool receives credit. Our three events so far this year have helped the Preschool purchase fun materials for our classrooms, great puzzles and a variety of outdoor toys for the playground.
We must thank Jerry and Leyvinia Ornstein for their enthusiastic support and for always being our first guests at
each Panda Express event! We appreciate the support of the entire congregation and all our Preschool families!
The congregation is warmly welcomed to join the Preschool as we celebrate the graduation for our 2014-15
Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten class on Wednesday June 3rd at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary. This event is always a
lovely, but bittersweet conclusion to the preschool days of our rising kindergartners.
The Preschool year concludes at Noon on Wednesday June 3rd. We will miss all our friends, but look
forward to the new year, beginning Monday August 24th. We still have limited space available in our two and
three year old classrooms, so please tell your friends not to wait - enroll today!

Sincere Christian sympathy is extended to the
family and friends of
Eleanor (Polly) Ault
who passed away recently.
A Memorial Service will be held on

here at Oakland Presbyterian Church
Thanks to All Those Who Helped
Host the Sunrise Events
This year our church hosted the Easter sunrise service and
breakfast. Over 135 people were in attendance at this ecumenical
event sponsored by the Oakland Coalition of Churches. Pastor
Bob wants to thank the members of our Praise Team who came in extra early that day to
provide the music, and the men who worked in the kitchen--especially Rick Hickman,
who provided leadership for the cooks. The Bible says, ―How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!‖ (Psalm 133:1)
Matthew’s Hope Needs Your Donations
Oakland Presbyterian Church has an ongoing collection for the Matthew’s Hope Homeless
Ministry in Winter Garden. The ministry strives to help those in need find jobs, housing
and other assistance. Our Matthew’s Hope donation basket is located in the church lobby.
Their current greatest needs include: work pants, socks, T-shirts, sneakers and travel
sized hygiene items. Thank you for sharing your blessings with those in need.
Contact Dave Kirwan at [email protected] or
407-656-5863 to find out how you can share your time, talents and
resources to serve those in need.
IT’S EASY TO HELP HABITAT
On the fourth Saturday of each month, we serve lunch to the workers at
West Orange Habitat for Humanity. There are usually about 15 workers to feed.
It’s so easy to help!
All you need to do is to volunteer to make 15 sandwiches one month and
Lynn White will pick them up and take care of the rest! Please call Lynn on
her cell at (352) 250-4194 and tell her you’d like to be her sandwich person
of the month!
