This is our first attempt to share the information in a different way. The first column shows that our income has exceeded our expenses for the first quarter—which is always a good thing! But the second column shows that we have not received as much money as we need if our budget and expenses were divided by four. If that difference or shortfall is not addressed, we could end the year in the red. So, while we are pleased to have a positive cash flow for the first quarter, we continue to encourage our folks to be generous and to keep your giving current. MAY 2015 3 The Oakleaf From the Pastor There are some events in life that change everything. By now most of you know that Pat and I are grandparents for the first time. We welcomed our grandson into this world in February, and we are discovering the joy of being grandparents. Having a grandchild is one of those events that can change everything—especially if you weren’t sure you would ever have the opportunity to be a grandparent. We were ready to accept the fact that we would have to spend all our money on ourselves. With a grandchild, we have to re-think that! This new addition to the family has influenced our thinking about vacations, holidays, and a host of other topics. Our grandson always brings a smile to our faces, and pictures of him can already be found all over our home. And, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, our smart phones have hundreds of pictures of our grandson. If you’ve been a grandparent for a long time, or if you have many grandchildren, you might be smiling at our excitement and joy. You’ve been there and done that and got the T-shirt. And perhaps your excitement and joy has abated with the passage of time. That seems to be what happens with our faith in Jesus. New believers are like kids in a candy store with money to spend. Or like new grandparents! New Christians want to talk about their experience and faith. And those of us who have known Jesus for a long time may smile at their enthusiasm, thinking that it will soon wear off and their lives will return to ―normal.‖ I know that happens. And that’s why one of the best things that can happen to a church is when new Christians come into our life. We need that enthusiasm and excitement that has waned for many of us. I hope you will join me in praying for God to keep sending us new believers so that we might never forget the joy and excitement that comes into a person’s life who opens his or heart to Jesus for the first time. Glad to be a follower of Jesus, and excited to be a grandfather! Pastor Bob PS – Have I shown you the latest picture of my grandson? We must thank Jerry and Leyvinia Ornstein for their enthusiastic support and for always being our first guests at each Panda Express event! We appreciate the support of the entire congregation and all our Preschool families! The congregation is warmly welcomed to join the Preschool as we celebrate the graduation for our 2014-15 Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten class on Wednesday June 3rd at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary. This event is always a lovely, but bittersweet conclusion to the preschool days of our rising kindergartners. The Preschool year concludes at Noon on Wednesday June 3rd. We will miss all our friends, but look forward to the new year, beginning Monday August 24th.
