Steel Piles – Longitudinally HF-welded pipes
► Three mills produce pipes applicable for the piling purposes:
− Hämeenlinna: 5 lines, D ≤ 76.1 mm and t ≤ 6.3 mm – Lmax=12 m
• max 100 000 ton/a (CHECK: ø 26,9 – 76,1 mm, t 2,00 – 5,00 mm)
− Lappohja: 6 lines, D ≤ 168.3 mm and t ≤ 6.3 mm – Lmax=12 m
• max 100 000 ton/a (CHECK: ø 76,1 – 168,3 mm, t 2,50 – 6,30 mm)
− Pulkkila: 1 line, 114.3 mm ≤ D ≤ 323.9 mm and 3 ≤ t ≤ 12.5 mm – Lmax=16 m
• max 130 000 ton/a (CHECK: ø 114,3 – 323,9 mm, t 4,00 – 12,50 mm)
► Steel grades as per EN 10219 are CE-marked
− S235JRH, S275J2H(MH), S355J2H, S355MH, S420MH and S460MH
► Steel grades developed and recommended for the piling purposes
are CE-marked based on European Technical Approval
(ETA-12/0526), which is the most comprehensive CE marking to
be granted to pile structures made of structural steel.
− S440J2H, S550J2H

Steel Piles – Spiral SAW steel pipes
► SSAB has one mill which produces pipes
applicable for the piling purposes:
− Oulainen: 2 lines + 1 line for PE coating,
406.4 ≤ D ≤ 1220.0 mm and t ≤ 23.0 mm (for S355 and
large diameters)
• up to 70000 ton/a (if in 3 shift)
• Normally approx. half of maximum (mainly 1-2
shifts)
• Lmax = 40 m without a splice weld
• Lmax = 55 m with a splice weld
− Very flexible mill with pipe production as own
coils produced in Raahe are used in processing
− Ability for versatile value-adding / outfitting of
piles taking into account the requirements of
EN1090 (e.g. rock shoes, shear rings, interlocks,
etc.)

High strength LDP piles
► The main steel grades used for RR large diameter piles are S355J2H,
S440J2H and S550J2H
► Higher steel grades denotes:
− higher bearing capacity with less steel consumption
− less steel means lighter structures
► Less steel denotes
− more economically solutions
− more environmentally friendly production
