Once again, the Truth Is The Proof – at best cruise (46.6km/h) Mercury OptiMax delivers 15% better fuel economy than Evinrude E-TEC.* 6 7 8 9 10 11 Better To see all comparative tests, visit: mercurymarine.com.au * Comparative tests by Mercury Marine R&D Department conducted Jan 2010 on a Triton TR-18 Pro 18’ Bass Boat. At a cruising speed of 46.6km/h (29mph) Mercury OptiMax 150hp Pro XS recorded 2.72 km/l (6.4mpg) and Evinrude E-TEC 150hp HO recorded 2.38 km/l (5.6mpg). 5 True Innovative Design With Mercury’s unique and innovative 2-stage low pressure Direct Fuel Injection system, fuel is first discharged into a holding cavity, before a burst of pressurized air, from the watercooled air compressor, shoots it into the cylinder. This process creates the best atomisation possible with every drop of fuel burned more consistently and completely, allowing you to get the most out of every litre. Fuel is discharged at between 90-110psi which spares the engine the stress of a high pressure system. Meaning less engine wear. OptiMax 2-Stage Direct Fuel Injection (90-110psi) OptiMax Air Compressor Provides pressurized air for the injection process, which is key to the OptiMax DFI operation. Compressor is water cooled to lower the temperature of the air charge and is lubricated by the oil pump. Unmatched performance. Multi-Point Oil Pump Distributes oil to all the key locations in the engine helping to extend engine performance and life. Durability and Reliability. 60 Amp Alternator The OptiMax 2-stage injection system uses air to shoot fuel directly into the top of the cylinder. Maximizes combustion efficiency. Belt driven to reduce heat build-up. Fully regulated for supplying on demand current to maintain the battery’s charge. Convenience. OptiMax DI Advantage Leading Gearcase Technology • • • • • No other marine engine company has more knowledge about hydrodynamics and gear case design. Mercury has the right gear case configuration and technology to match every boating application. Lower emissions Best in class fuel economy Unmatched performance Reliable durability Lower pressure Mercury Gear Case Advantage Exhaust Cavity Front Mounted Inlets • Less drag for better performance and handling • C ompetitors pointed gear cases often don’t allow weeds to clear the gear case, restricting critical cooling water getting to inlets • Patented ‘Front Mounted Dual Water Intakes’ ensure proper cooling • Controlled exhaust temperatures ensure longevity of the prop hub. 6 True Advantage The E-TEC and Yamaha run in a homogeneous mode unlike the OptiMax which runs stratified combustion. This means the OptiMax provide smoother RPM transition from low to mid range throttle speeds. Why air makes the difference: With Mercury’s unique low pressure 2-stage system, fuel is first discharged into a holding cavity before a burst of 90-110psi air shoots it into the cylinder. This process creates the best atomisation possible for a more consistent and complete burn. E-TEC’s hammer style plunger forces only fuel into the cylinder at 500 PSI. But the droplets are still much larger because they haven’t been atomized with air. Plus the intense pounding puts additional stress on the engine. Yamaha’s HPDI system injects fuel only into the cylinder at 700 PSI. But it still produces large droplets which don’t burn as completely. And, again, engine components are subjected to intense, constant stress of 700 pounds of pressure. The Truth is: OptiMax low pressure 2 stage injection system means: • L ess engine wear • L ower emissions, better fuel economy and more power • S moother running • M ore reliable 7 True Reliability. Tested like no other outboard Once again, the Truth Is The Proof: The ultimate test of an engine’s worth is reliability. Used for extended periods, at wide-open throttle in harsh salt water and extreme sunlight, truly tests what you’re made of. • E xclusive low pressure two-stage Direct Injection, discharges fuel at just 90-110psi, for best atomisation possible and a more consistent and complete burn – meaning less stress on the engine, better fuel economy and superior performance when compared to Evinrude E-TEC or Yamaha’s HPDI Hi pressure systems. At Mercury, we test our engines mercilessly and use those results to make them even more reliable – the tougher the test, the tougher the engine. Our engines are put through tests such as vicious log strikes, saltwater spray booths, high humidity chambers and hot and cold water temperatures. That’s just phase one of the torture. Next we run each engine rigorously for thousands of hours to prove it can stand the test of time. In fact, whatever you put the engine through, you can rest assured, we’ve already done it. Actual Mercury Marine log strike test on prototype six cylinder Verado. 8 • E ngine Guardian Protection System – prevents potential engine damage, while still allowing you to get to shore • The only 3 year Corrosion Warranty in the Marine Industry • Automatic new engine run in mode • 60-amp alternator for marine electronics • Patented gear case design – superior handling and trouble free cooling True Guarantee.
