The Future is Bright Scholars Day Breakfast celebrates the 2015 Operation Jump
Start graduates as they take another step towards realizing their dreams. Please join us
as we wish them well and thank the volunteer mentors who helped make it all happen.
They demonstrate why Long Beach is proudly becoming the thriving, diverse
community it was meant to be. The 2015 Keynote Speaker will be Long Beach Mayor
Robert Garcia. Dr. Garcia is an educator and advocate for mentoring and college
access. Like all of our students, he was the first in his family to go to college.
For more than 21 years, Operation Jump Start has been offering mentoring and support
services to the most vulnerable youth of Long Beach, empowering them with what they
need to get into college and succeed. Federal statistics give many of our students less
than 44% of a chance of graduating high school on time. Not only do OJS students
graduate – they go on to graduate from universities across the country!

Scholars Day is Operation Jump Start’s largest annual fundraiser. Funds raised are used
to support our programming, including supporting and training volunteer mentors,
tutoring sessions, individualized case management, counseling support, a resource
center, college preparedness workshops, college tours, cultural outings, and community
events that help our students become active and engaged citizens. There are a number
of ways to be involved.

Direct scholarships help defray the costs associated with pursing higher education.
These scholarships go directly to the student recipient. They have often been named in
honor of something or in memoriam of a loved one. A scholarship is a special and
unique tribute that serves an even greater purpose.
