SDHE 422: Design and Human Environment
Fashion Show and Design Exhibition
The class lasts through both winter and spring terms
-General Information
This class is offered by the School of Design and Human Environment both Winter and
Spring terms (the classes are in succession and must be taken both terms). DHE 422
involves planning, designing, directing, and promoting the SDHE spring/summer fashion
show and design exhibition. Students will meet once a week to learn the logistics of
planning a professional runway fashion show and design exhibition and apply their skills
to the annual SDHE spring fashion show.
-The SDHE spring fashion show will feature a student directed runway fashion show
with designs by Juniors and Seniors in the SDHE Apparel design professional program.
-Due to the limited class size, students must apply for admission into the class. There are
6 committees that make up the class. Each student must apply for a specific committee.
-Please type your answers to the following questions on a separate sheet of paper and
hand them into the DHE office (Milam 224) in Marianne Dickson’s mailbox by Friday
Nov. 20, 2015 (feel free to hand them in early). There is a sheet you must sign (find it in
my mailbox) and add your email address so you can be informed that your application
was received. There will be no exceptions for late applications.
When will the class meet?
The class will meet once a week Wednesdays from 5-6:50pm in Milam 229.
Who can apply?
All students currently enrolled in the professional and pre professional program for
apparel design, merchandising management, interior design, graphic design, and
business. If you are accepted into this class, you will be required to take it both Winter
and Spring terms. *You will not be accepted into this class if you cannot take both
terms.
How do I apply?
Read this whole packet, type your answers to the following questions below on a separate
piece of paper, and print out a copy of your resume. Turn everything into the SDHE
office (Milam 224) mailbox for Marianne Dickson no later than Friday Nov. 20, 2015.
Remember you are applying for a specific committee.
What are you looking for in the candidates that apply?
15 students are accepted into the class. The committee is looking for highly selfmotivated students who are eager to join the class, have a reputation for working well
with others, and show a great desire to bring dedication and ideas for working on the
show. Experience is a plus (such as students who volunteered in the spring show previous
years). This is not a class for students who are looking to just show up every week and
1
earn the credits for the class. You will be expected to meet outside class time with your
committee and work with your committee along with working on your own.
How will I know if I have been accepted?
Every person who has applied will be sent an email by Friday November 27, 2015
informing you of your acceptance or rejection.
What if I am not accepted into the class?
There will still be a need for students to help a few weeks before and during the fashion
show and design exhibition. This will be a voluntary process with no applications
necessary. So remember if you are not accepted into the class there will still be room to
be involved with the show.
How do I register for this class?
If you are accepted into the class you will be given instructions how to register for the
class. The class is 3 credits per term.
When is the fashion show?
TBD. You must be available the entire day even though the show is in the evening. It
takes a day to get everything set up.

you sign the list after you have placed the application in the envelope in Marianne Egan’s
mailbox.

Please also hand in a copy of your resume and turn both papers into the DHE office
mailbox for Marianne Dickson no later than Friday Nov. 20, 2015. Please explain your
